Hi, i have a 2003 350 rancher with 25,000km on the clock, when u turn the ignition on the dash doesn't come on and nothing works horn, lights etc, the bike can still be started by recoil, when the bike starts the dash comes on but flickers and dims as u rev the bike, the lights and horn also come on but the light fade to nothing as u rev the bike higher, when trying to start on the button there is no solenoid click or nothing, the fuses are all ok and the battery reads 13 volts (READS 10.7 WHEN RUNNING). Could it be the common old regulator?, the bike stops when the regulator is unplugged, is that normal?, plase help, Steve.

If your motor stops when you pull the plug, then your alt and battery are the problem. Just to make shore check your battery amps, the volts maybe there but the amp aren't.

thanks, the battery reads 12.9 volts but when the ignition is on the battery voltage drops to 2.9 volts!, would that suggest stator/battery?, or something as simple as a short?, thanks again.

Hi,I'm not sure if you still need help, but here goes anyway. You have a charging problem. The first thing you have to do is remove the battery and charge it over night on a trickle charge,if the cells are serviceable ensure they are all full.If they are not full add distilled water and charge. You then need to have it load tested. Most retailers who sell batteries will have the equipment to load test it and usually do it for free. Before doing your load tests though you may want to put it back in the bike and try running it.If you get it started check the VDC at the battery terminals. You should read around 14-15 volts dc.If you are reading 12 or less then it is reading battery voltage only and indicates a charging problem. If you read above 15 volts dc,you have a regulator problem which has also more than likely fried the battery as well.Hope that helps
