What is that gray box with grooves by the bat box?

Back by the wheelie bar- battery box left side there is a small metal box with like grooves in it. It has wires going to it. I thought it was the rev limiter box but i unplugged it and it still hits the limit. What is i????

Its the charging system regulator /rectifier. Dont mess with it.

I would actually recommend as a preventative measure to pack the connection with electrical conductiong grease. I've had to replace this rectifier because water dissolved the contacts to the point that they broke off. It's an easy way to save a lot of hassle.
