went out ridding today, had been ridding four a couple of hours and stoppped for a short break.hit the switch and the bike will turn over but will not fire up.It's getting fuel and fire, what else could cause not to fire up? It is a 06 with a hrc kit.

I'd start by checking the valves & cleaning the carb.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing on the carb. I just picked up this bike and the guy said that the had been setting for about five months. Maybe it is me but I here a strange clanking noise we it turns over?

my local dealership told me I needed a top end kit. I probably had 6hrs on it. I went home drained the fuel(which was air plane fuel, I think 103) poured in some 93 a new spark plug a little shot of starting fluid and have not had a problem since. I also have an 06 with hrc. I guess just had some bad gas, eventhough it ran good untill I cut it off.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to try that, but the clanking noise still has me alittle worried.

is the engine turning over or just the starter?......it could be the starter clutch, they make a clanking sound when they go bad

Yes, the engine is turning over. I don't have the tools to do a compresion test but you can fill it blowing out off the exhaust?

I have similar problems with my 05 sometimes, but without the clanking. Would spraying starter fluid in the intake help with mine as well?

sounds to me that its a valve issue. Check those clearances!!! .006 on intake .011 exhaust. +-.011 for both.

mine only clanked when it wouldn't start. It would spin faster than normal. Has not clanked since.

Thanks for all the info, I havent had time to check anything. Would pulling the plug and poring in alittle gas to see if it will fire up hurt anything?

I wouldn't because that would just flood it & then it wouldn't start anyway. Pull the carb & make sure fuel is getting through the needle.

sup yall ! i work at a honda shop and have come across this same problem a time or two . on the early 06 the starter clutch fails but still turns the engine over (just not fast enough to start the bike)Honda has updated parts that will cure your problem. also check your valves so your machine fires up instantly (prolonging the life of the new starter clutch)

Yep! you ara correct. took the bike to the local shop and they replaced everything that was on the 06 recall.
