well went to a dealership today to check out some trucks, and there were two nices trucks that i saw one was an 01 f150 xlt with 66k on it 5.4 extended cab and all, frame was just repainted they are looking for 8 grand but i can use my blazer for a trade in towards eaither truck for 1500 bucks then once i sell my 400 use the cash towards it also, so theres the older truck.

the newer truck is an 04 f150 with the 4.6 in it 44k 4 door which i hate xlt and all and they want 16000 for the truck, so debating on which truck to look more into, i would love to get a 2500 but no need for me if im just hauling around my quads or loading it up with wood for delivering which would you look more into need soem input.

thanks

i have a 05 f150 with 80k on it. got it for 7g. I loaded the bed with 2000lbs of metal and it ran like a champ. keep in mind this truck has the 4.6l in it.

my brother has the same truck with a 5.4 in it. we get about the same gas mileage around town, i get 1 maybe 2 mpg better highway.

one down fall to all fords. they have had a huge problem with blowing out spark plugs. the damage could be anything from needing to be tapped to new a whole new head.

happen to me. cost me 700 bucks to have then retap the hole.

in your situation i would go with the newer truck. i would "kelly blue book" it. the price seems kind of high.

this is the place he got his from

yeah 16 is definately high, i found a 05 F-150 crew cab with 40-50k on it (dont remember exactly how miany miles) at the begining of last summer that had most of the options other than leather and they had 13,995 in the window and the salesmen told me if i offered 12 they would sell it in a heartbeat because pickups just weren't selling

probably a little different now that the gas prices have went down so people think they can afford trucks again... until the gas prices go back up... lol...

but i would say look into what you can afford in the long run, not just what you want or what the bank or the dealership will approve you for. if you feel you can afford the payment on a $16,000 truck for the next 4-6 years or whatever you decide on for payment period then go for it... if you would rather have lower payments and have it paid off quicker look at trucks in the $8-10,000 range.

just make sure whatever you decide on its what you want and what you can afford... we dont want to hear from you in a year and half saying that your truck got repoed cause you couldn't afford the payment... lol...

jesus man, did they build a tap out of diamond just do do it? lol.

i had a plug blow on my way to the dunes this summer in my 250. we installed a ford-version of a helicoil in the campground parking lot, got a new plug and coil, and was on my way, out about $100.

i know right. i was gonna do it myself but the damn 4.6 engines are so cluttered you would have to remove the head just to work on it. i couldn't even find the spark plug hole when it happened. Im not the most mechanically inclined (i put on my own lowering shackles and replaced my brakes all around on the 150, and rebuilt a couple 450r engines by myself) but i figured i could do it. done stuff like that before.

im not familiar with the new ford 150(4.6) we had a 02 f150 with the 4.6 and it was a pain to get the oil filter. it took me longer to take the old one out and and put the new one in than the whole oil change took. did they change that?

i couldnt tell you if they did or not.

However speaking of oil changes, those guys that work at the super lube are good. the communication in those shops between the mechanics is excellent. not to mention i have a buddy that works there so i get a basic service for ten bucks.

if figure why let someone else do it when it takes me 10-15min. plus while im down there i like to look over the engine and make sure everything is ok.
