yeah the mavicas are alright, but only if you get a newer one. the older models are ok but they are like maybe 1mega pixel. so they have low res pictures and don't look all that great. i had really good luck with my mavica tell it got jacked. also had good luck with the HP camera i had, i ussaly hate hewlit packard stuff but their cameras are really decent. they're also somewhat decently priced.

You want something that is at least 2.1 Megapixels.....3+ is much nicer as well. Also, you want the OPTICAL zoom. Do not skip this feature or you will not be happy with the camera that you bought. There are alot of nice cameras out there in that price range so you have plenty of choices. A brand name is just a preference like Chevy or Ford. I personally prefer the Kodak cameras when you are talking about that type of price range. Unfortunately any Sony in that range is not the best camera. They make you pay hefty for the Sony name. Have fun shopping!

Heres my mavica. It takes great pics but for the price I think it should have done more, its simple to use though. It saves the pictures to a floppy then just have to stick it into the a-drive.

only thing that sucks about the disks in the mavica is that they're so volitale (sp?). they get ruined super easy, any sort of magnetic field will ruin the disk for good. just a little FYI on those mavicas.

It just uses a floppy. I have like 20 of those so if one gets ruined its no big deal. My camera has worked perfectly, and I took over 400 pictures with it in the boat this summer.

Take a look at the camera company digitals (canon, minolta, olympus etc...) The optics are better and think about it....cameras are all they make, so they have to do it well to stay in business. The canon powershots are good cameras with a minimum of 2 megapixels for about $199. Then take the extra money and get a 64-or 128 megabyte media card and you will have a great little camera that can store up to 150 photos on one card. Just my 2 cents.
