I just picked up a 99 400ex. The person I got it from raced it, so it has aftermarket plastics and no lights. I really need to add a headlight. I browsed some posts here and seen some frame and handlebar bolt on lights. I would really like to use the existing headlight harness, and I really don't want to cut it. Is there any where I can buy a connector for this? The only thing I can think of is getting a stuck light and splicing the harness, if I do that I might as well find a way to mount the stock light. Any suggestions?

buy a extra used headlight and cut off the harness from it...or cut into what is there...unless someone on here is willing to trim the end off of their stock light

x3 on the stock headlight harness. On my 05 i run a maier hood and trail tech frame mount hids. Using a clipped off harness makes the installation clean and easy.

be careful with using automotive intended lights,
(I.E.- fog lights from Wallyworld, autozone, pepboys etc.),
if the wattage on them is too high, you could drain your battery, or even worse, kill your stator.

lots of threads here on that.
best thing would be to go back to the stock headlights.

trail techs are made for atv's. They are not automotive. You do need to be careful to not load your system past the output of the stator. Stock stator on a 400 is 70 watts. My hids are only 35 watts. That leaves plenty for everthing else. Hids are spendy but they last much better than halogens on the 400 and light up everything much better than comperable halogens.

I am going to try and find a harness, I would really hate to buy a stock light just to use the harness. I checked out the trail tech lights and think I am going to go with the torch lights.
