Bligstar Textured Black DC Nerf Bars are in the mail and i still need to order my Hotcam and Piston. I will probly wait till it gets a little warmer to do that.

i think it looks pretty sweet also planning on black gripper seat cover and black itp wheels and sandstars

also last night when i pulled my quad out it was pretty cold prolly 15-20 it ran crappy. do you think if i put my air box lid back on that would richen it up enough for the cold temp?

Looks good. I too like the bumper. I bet you are really loving those new shocks compared to the crappy stock pogo sticks.

Hey fellow Michiganders, I have a question. I ride in Oscoda a lot. The Huron trail and such. I live very close to the mounds also so I go there. Are there any other good places to ride, besides the dunes? I'm looking for some new scenery.

Bbender85, you have about the same setup as me and live in Michigan. What is your jetting configuration. I'm just trying to find a place to start.

Thanks

Thanks

with the 400 carb i was running a 172 main and a 40 or 42 pilot... never adjusted anything else, so i am not sure it was spot on. seemed to run alright tho.

i dont plan on havin my valves done except for new seals but can i take a buffer wheel on a dremel and clean up the head a bit?

Can the decompression pin and spring be taken out of the head, since a hotcam doesnt use the decompression system or should i leave it in?

also can 12:1 run on 93?

cam19aro86
02-10-2009, 05:47 AM
If you are using a Hotcam you must take out the decompression plunger and spring. You don't want that garbage coming loose in your motor. Your going to like your 416.

i think 11:1s the highest you can run with pump gas.and for your clutch i wouldnt upgrade it till its broke.

I like the Moose stuff, although I am not crazy about the black.

The engine looks like it was due.
Did you have any symtoms?

3or4HONDA
02-11-2009, 02:39 PM
thanks, no it was running fine when i tore it apart i just had the time and money so thought this was as good of time as any.

the only thing i thought was wrong was their was a tick that i think was a stretched cam chain. but hopefully i fixed that with the crf chain.

I have a tick/clack too... on cold starts... until the heat expands things... pretty sure it's the cam chain too. If you get a chance, watch this video and let me know if it's the same sound.

Bingo then... I can tell you can hear exactly what I do.

So... same sound but louder and inconsistant?
Or... not the same sound at all?

It's a VERY singular sound, not a multi sound like valves... so I think it's gotta be the cam chain parts or the wrist pin.

3or4HONDA
02-11-2009, 04:05 PM
i would lean towards the wrist pin because i dont think it is the same sound. definately louder and inconsistent and i would expect the chain to be constant. ill let ya know when mine is back running if it went away and if it did you could probably rule out the chain.

Thanks man... I really appreciate the input... and I'll be waiting for your verdict.

I know my chain stuff is worn... my tension plunger only lacked about 1/4" of going all the way back in without retracting it. So I just assumed..... but I've always had this bad gut feeling about the wristpin....

Now back to your build....

Any particular reason you decided on a 400EX as a base instead of a Z400 base?

3or4HONDA

i wanted a Honda and i knew the ex was reliable and easily built upon.

Header welds ground down

All back together and ready for break-in......

still have a One Industries gripper seat cover to put on, as well as some painting and put my 450r carb on after break-in...

sounds great and fired right up, but damn that hotcam is loud hopefully after a while i can tighten up the valves and quiet it some..

With a hotcam thats as good as it gets mines the same way. Sounds good.

bbender85
02-28-2009, 10:19 PM
just remember you're not supposed to let it idle too much to break in that cam. sounds good!

MtnEX
02-28-2009, 10:34 PM
Good work!

I wanted to do that to mine :(

The valves sing like a sewing machine with that cam.

How much of a difference did those engine mods make?

3or4HONDA
03-01-2009, 10:35 AM
ill let ya know after i can really get on it but so far overall power is up a lot and maybe a slight loss in low end but power is their much longer now. Im very happy with it.

3or4HONDA
03-07-2009, 03:54 PM
Installed the 450 carb today which i thought was a pain in the ***. stuff just didnt seem to fit well. anyway got it in after some work and the idle is a little inconsistent..

anyone else have this problem?

i wasnt able to open it up since it was raining but it sounded good didnt backfire at all just the idle would idle down then come back up, suggestions.....

and where is the idle screw?

Ruby Soho
03-07-2009, 04:55 PM
the idle screw is on the side, same as the 400 carb

3or4HONDA
03-07-2009, 07:16 PM
the only screw on the side that i found was on the bottom, left side, and it was all the way in and when i unscrewed it that didnt do anything.

so if this isnt it could someone post a pic of it

also still dont know what would cause the inconsistency

Does the hotcams come with bearings installed or do you reuse your old bearings? No one has been able to tell me in another post and I have heard hotcams from Honda of Troy dont come with bearings?

Looking good by the way.

3or4HONDA
03-07-2009, 07:34 PM
the hotcam does not come with bearings, you re-use your old bearings.

thanks.

What are the adavantages or disadvantages if any of the CRF chain? Also like what ya did with the tape over the headlights looks pretty cool.

Young_Gun1
03-09-2009, 04:13 PM
the crf chain is supposed to be stronger

3or4HONDA
03-09-2009, 05:16 PM
the crf chain is the same size as a "heavy duty" that you would buy somewhere else. but it is only about 30 bucks.
