well when i started my ex today it smoked like snoop dog had been in my motor for years so for some reason i decided to take my exhaust off and when i did i was just amazed to see all the thick oil build up in the header not carbon but oil then i left the headers leaning for a while and then bout a few tbl spoons of oil and sludg came out so im just in shock as in what caused this disaster but like i said i did have a real bad gasket and maby the jug got enough oil in it to cause this problem, ill try to get pictures as soon as i can get a camera

Sounds like your rings are gone. When was the last top end done?

Maybe exhaust valves not sealing also. Have you checked them lately?

im either saying its a seal or the gasket cause the outside of the motor is covered with oil and the last time i ever checked on the motor for anything was about a year ago and since then it has bout 100 ride hours on it but yah i do change the oil and filter regularly and this new problem is a recent thing

about how much for new rings and gasket on the heavy side do you think it is?

yea my guess is a leaky valve seat with a bad seal..

Your going to have to pull the top of the motor off to see if you damaged the valve. If not and it is just a seat you can get it re-cut. But since it has that many hours I would say it's time for a top end.

You may get away with honing the cylinder and keeping the stock bore but I doubt it. You can get a overbore piston and ring kit off ebay of something, have your local machine shop bore the cylinder and have a reputable person replace the valve seal and cut your valve seats "if necessary".

Total bill if you do the labor should be $250-300 at the most. I think if you really try you could keep it under 200.

Now if you have trashed the valve itself, it will be a few more bucks

You might get lucky and just have bad rings on the piston and getting some major blow by. You will not know until it's apart.

The oil all over the motor sounds like the head gasket went also. Doesn't really matter, once you open it up that is getting replace anyways.

Post some pics if you can, that will help figure it out
