I know it's been brought up by many people already, but I can't seem to get this thing to idle. When I bought the quad it did idle but I have taken it apart and put an ESR head on it so I could run pump gas. Before, when it did idle it had a higher compression (modified) oem head which needed 105 octane. It's the only thing I really changed on the engine other than pipe and silencer. It did have FMF Fatty w/ PowercoreII , now it has a TRX-5r w/ FMF turbinecoreII. When I turn the idle adjustment (choke knob) it does nothing. The same with the air screw. No matter what I do it won't idle. With just a very light touch on the throttle it will stay running and it seems to run good all through the higher rpm's, exept for some bogging sometimes when pulling from the very low rpm range.

Any help is appreciated. I am pretty new to these 250r's and 2 strokes in general.

After researching a little, I think the jetting is on the rich side. Below is the info I have...

'86 motor - 69mil bore ( 269cc I believe)
38mm PJ carb
At sea level
52 idle jet
needle on 3rd clip
215 main (way too rich I believe)
air screw makes no difference when adjusted.
BR9EG plug
32:1 93octane w/ Castor 927
Pump gas head (don't know exact dome size)
Mild Mx port cylinder
Uni filter, trx-5r pipe, fmf turbinecoreII silencer, V-force reeds

Any opinions are really appreciated.

Im running that same carb. Yours def. has to be to rich with a 210mj i'm running a 175(with the cold weather id probably go with a 180) in mine and if i can remember right a 52 pilot, dont remember what needle is in mine buts its on the middle 3rd clip and the air screw is probably 1 1/4 out

I was running a similar setup and for winter I run a 55 pilot and a 225 main in a 39mm pwk. If you can't get any idle control its your pilot jet.

I run a 178 /50/ DGH 3 rd on the 39pwk try tighning up the throttle cable to open the slide a little.

Maybe I'll try a 180 / 50 and work my way down if needed. The monstrous main jet that is in it makes no sense to me. I never thought of putting a little tension on the throttle cable to pull the slide up just enough to keep it running. I don't remember what needle is in it, so I'll note it when I pull it back apart.
I did the plug chop on it and the plug came out dark and wet, so it is definitely rich right?

turn the idle screw in as far as possible if that doesn't work, turn the air screw out until it revs the most (don't go past 3 turns)and turn it back 1/4 of a turn. if you still have a bog or hesitation go leaner on the pilot jet don't take the slack out of the cable until it idles. it wont perform correct. i was runing about 198 comp with a 185 main jet and a 48 pilot.this is in wisconsin using klotz super tecnoplate oil, 100 oct aviation fuel from the local airport. when i went to bigger motors and more comp i went to a more conistant fuel vp c112. rember using differn't oils and fuels will produce differnt results you have to figure out what is right the jetting for your combination

sorry i think the pj carbs use the choke knob for the idle if so turn the choke knob counter clockwise to idle up (looking down from the seat)

Thanks! I have to get some jets so I can get back to messing with it again.
