I know motoworks is running 13/38 and I'm wondering why they went with this gearing and if they tried other gearing ratios.

Stock 08 gearing is 3:1
Stock 09 gearing and motoworks race team is 2.92:1

This is a small difference and I'm wondering why 13/38?

I'm getting ready to purchase a new rear sprocket. I'm between 14/40 (2.78:1) and 14/39 (2.71:1).

thanks for ya'll's input!!!

anyone know why you would want a smaller front sprocket if you could get the same or nearly the same gear ratio by changing the rear sprocket?

changing the front sprocket one tooth size is equivelent to changing the rear 3 teeth sizes, and a front sprocket is cheaper and easier to change.

Hey guys this is Johnny with Motoworks. Right now most of the team is running 14/40. Changing the front sprocket allows us to get in between ratio's that we cannot get just by hanging the rear sprockets. A lot of the season we ran 13/37 and 13/38. It just depends on the track we are running.
