i have a 400ex and am thinking about an aluminum rear sprocket on the rear. i am wondering if this would give me any advantage in a drag race? i will be sticking with the same 38 tooth sprocket. thanks

I wouldn't think it would be noticeble. I ran an aluminum sproket once. It was hooked to **** after one day of riding.:(

The weight saving is not that much compared to steel. The steel will last 3 times longer and will cost much less. The weight that you will save will be in your wallet.

what it will do is eliminate reciprecating mass. although on something like this it is very minimal. now if you took a 15 lb wheel and a put on a 5lb wheel, there would a drastic increase in performance. not only acceleration but suspension performance also
it is rare when reducing weight is not a benefit. the alumin you had was probally a porr quality and that is why wear was a issue, i believe vortex sprockets are of higher quality

I'd be more concerned with the weight of some of these tires... The stockers are light and a high percentage of us use the heavier brands for added grip, stability or whatever.
