I just picked up a 98 Banshee the other day. The previous owner has had it stored in his garage for about 8 years. He had it tuned up and it runs great now. One thing I noticed was the clutch is tight now. I rode it 10 years ago and dont remember it being like that. It works fine just a bit hard to pull in. Any suggestions as to what it might be would help.

I'm sure after sitting that long the cable is all seized up.

Just replace the clutch cable and you'll be good to go. It makes a worlds difference in feel with a new cable.

That's what I was thinking. Anything else I should check out before i start riding it? I need to order some new tires. I have been thinking about going with some Maxxis razors. I need to find a good place to order them from.

i think rockymountainatv.com has great prices on tires and you will get free shipping on orders over $99 plus you can get a clutch cable there to, i would go with streamline or motion pro

Honestly I would go with motosport

They have much better prices then Rocky Mountain, and if you find the same item/tire somewhere else cheaper they will match or beat the price.

Plus with orders over $99 you get free 3 day express shipping.

I order everything from there.

Plus they're having after Christmas sales.

What kind of riding do you do? Theres are tons of different tires. I can point you in a direction if you tell me what kinda riding you do.

I will be riding out on our land which is like a pasture. Maybe some trails from time to time. I would say hard packed ground most of the time. I dont think we have any sand around here. Im not sure what size I should go with either. Any suggestions will help.

20" Razr's or holeshots will do you pretty good probably.

I would do 20" Razr rears with 21" or 22" Razr2 fronts

You almost always go with a bigger front then the rear. The banshee's look pretty awkward with 20's front and back.

My dads running 20 rears and 22 fronts, and im running 20 rears and 23 fronts.

you should go with 22's. they handle nice and the extra ground clearance is nice on the trails.

Thanks for the pics. I like the look of both tires. Now that I know the size I want I just need to figure out which one I like.

Anyone know where I can get a fuel petcock? I'm not sure which one I need. The one that's on there now has a leak. I was thinking about just replacing the valves and o-rings but if a new one only cost 20-30 dollars might as well get a new one. I just don't want to get the wrong one.

I'm guessing that it won't matter if mine is a 98 and his is a 99 year model. Is this correct?

just get one from ronnies.com , if you get that one it will pry leak in a week or two, a new one is only $24.00

why would it leak? It came off a perfectly fine banshee.

And csparks, yes the 99 will work on the 98. Banshees stayed exactly the same other then the electrical connectors changing in 95, the j-arms on the 87-89, and the addition of a tail light in 02.

bansheehq was a pretty awesome site but it got drowned in noobs that think they know everything.
hillclimbersforum is much better imho. Lots of nice guys and the majority of them ride banshee's.

And by 95 I was saying that they had a certain style plug from 87-94 then 95 had a different plug style. 95-09

Now I have a new problem that I have discovered. One of the carbs is leaking a small amount of gas out of what seems to be an overflow tube. Any one know what this might be? It only does it while it's running and Its not a whole lot.

The floats are sticking. Try tapping the carbs with a wrench or something.

If it still persists you have to clean the carbs.

pull the bowl off the carb and check your float and the valve and seat, and check the height on the float aswell

Its not necessary to go that far yet. Sometimes all it needs is a tap on the carb/bowl if its been sitting a while.

If that doesnt work then he can do the rest.

I will give both of those a try. I figured I was going to have to take it apart. Thanks for the help. I'm sure I will have more.

I'm wanting to paint some parts on the bike. What type of paint will work best? Also can I paint the thin piece of metal that's inbetween the rim and hub?

powdercoat is the best way to go and yes you can paint those shields

x2

If you can't afford powdercoat make sure paint it with some primer, then put like 6-9 coats of paint, and around 3 coats of clear.

I'm not going to powdercoat due to cost. The plate has some rust on it. That's why I want to paint it. Just to make it last longer and look better.
