Has everyone done this on their new quads, and was any adjustment even necessary?

Thanks

i haven't done it yet....i haven't noticed any decrease in performance but the valves do tick some...i've been meaning to do it i just keep putting it off.....i know a guy that has an xr400 for like 15 years and he never did it...so dunno...prolly better if you do it but i don't think it's gonna mess anything up too bad if ya don't

I would check the adjustment every time you change your oil, it will make it perform different. On a new bike you wont notice it, but ride it for a while, let them brake in and then adjust them you will notice a difference> 400's have some valve clatter...louder than others.........

how would you describe valve clatter? Just wondering what sound to hear for..

I plan on adjusting them eventually, but was going to wait a little while like Chukkinsod suggested. I know a guy with a CRF 450 and he has never adjusted his after three years, which is dumb to me. I just didnt see any reason to do it with a quad still on its second oil change

it's just recomended you do check it at first service....it doesn't mean it will be out of spec. 99% of the time, the will be within spec first time around.....I would adjust your valves atleast once a year

ticking noises or sounding like a deisel will give you a good hint of needing a valve adjust

Just got to about 10 hrs on my 08 and checked the valves. They were within spec. It was simple to do and gives me more peace of mind while I am riding.
