06 doesn't start in gear

My dads 07 starts in gear but my 06 doesn't is thee something I can do so it will start

There were two wires coming out of the stock perch. Twist these two wires together and you should be good to go. I would use some kind of connector, and then electrical tape on top of that to keep water away from the exposed wires.

Not sure why it's harder, but it's just the nature of the beast. If you crack the throttle (with the motor running) just a hair, it will fall right into neutral.
