to those serving or those who have served, i just wanted to say that your duty has not gone un-thanked

i personally can't stand how disrespectful we treat our military these days/ how disrespectful some military aspects have become

To ridered11 and represent618 I thank you and keep telling people you support the military. I started my career in the Army 54B and I am now in the Navy currently on deployment and I appreciate every single person who appreciates what I have chosen for my career. Thanks again. Didnt mean to bust up this thread.

My good friend is an MP. Today is actually his last day in Jersey before he leaves to Alaska then Afghanistan. We're going to my other friends bar before he leaves. My other friend who I've known my whole life is a Marine, also based in Alaska, and I have another friend who I used to ride with all the time just got back from the sandbox.

Wish I could chime in, but I was never in the army.

I was Marine Corps Infantry.

just went over 18 years last may 19K M1 Tanker. started out as 19E M60 Tanker. Few runs down range as Infantry and Armor.

As for Basic nowadays in the Army? It's easy. Don't worry if it's hard or easy for real. Do what your told don't try to be a bad-a@# and the Drills won't eat you alive. When I went to Basic the Drills still could lay hands on you. Now the soldiers don't even really get stressed. If you go in and end up down range just listen to your NCO's and you'll be fine. Not saying Basic is a joke, just saying you will have a lot to learn after.

Best decision I ever made. I would do it all over again without even thinking about it.

Next month will be 19 years for me. Loved every minute of it.

Two kids via c-section yet each birth only cost me $25 out of my pocket and that was for the wife's hospital food. 3 years of braces for my daughter cost me nothing. Pretty good health insurance if you ask me.....

Free trips to Germany, Hawaii, Okinawa and several stateside locations.

Free associates degree and I'm almost finished with my Microsoft Network Certification.

Plus free college for one of my kids when I give one of them my GI Bill.

On post quarters aren't the greatest but they are free and we don't even have to pay maintenance. So what if your kid shoves a toy car down the toilet! Only pay renters' insurance for your stuff.

US Army, 88M. Nov. 1990 to Nov 1995. Was one of the best things I did in life. Don't regret it one bit. Only wished I would have stayed in the full 20yrs. Was in for five years and saw combat 3 times. If you are thinking about doing it, just do it. You won't regret it. If they give you a choice of duty stations I strongly suggest anywhere in Germany. Awsome place. I did my last 3 years there, and my first 2 years at Ft. Drum, N.Y.
