Boring to 416

k i called a machine shop to get my cylinder bored and they said 50 bucks to bore it and they said all you gotta do is inlude the piston and the clearence what do they mean by clearence?

They want to know what clearance you want between the piston and the cylinder wall. $50 is a fair price. Your best bet is to get the piston and drop it off with the cylinder and let them figure it out for you.

call the manufacturer and ask them for the piston to cylinder clearance. Dont leave it up to a machine shop unless they do motorcycles/atvs regularly because its different on a car. Its usually around .004" though.

should be .002 to .003:) give them the piston and cylinder,wiseco pistons will have the needed info on the box

I agree with 2much. If they are a machine shop, they will know what it needs. For an extra precaution I had mine gnurled, which puts cross hatches in. If you are doing your first bore and want your quad to last longer you might want to look at the 406. It's the next size up from stock 85mm which is 85.5mm. Your 416 piston will be an 86mm. Just some info :)

accualy the 416 is a 87mm ;) thats what the wiseco piston says i ordered one just waiting for it to come in

Yeah 86mm is a 406 and 87mm is a 416. And if it is bored out, it is also honed which puts the cross hatch in it. Also atomotive machine shops dont know the specs on motorcycle engines unless they have done them before.
