So i have an 07 its starts and runs mint. Nothing seems wrong at all. I changed my oil and the oil was very black, like it was used for a long time. It is used.

As im draining the oil i take a flashlight and look at the oil and theres a bucnh, not a ton of fine fine metal. I pull the oil filter and look and theres some fine metal on that to.

Should i be worried or do you think thats the original oil and the metal is from break in?

are you changing crankcase oil or tranny oil?

sounds like you're gonna need a crank.

tranny oil. so maybe its just the gears wearing?

pretty sure thats just from break in.. i think it should do that for the next few oil changes.. if your worried, contact your dealer, and have them take a look at it.. it should still be under warrenty if it is just an 07

I've never used LRD but I've heard they're a decent exhaust and sound good to. They seem to be good quality for the price. I was going to go with a full LRD exhaust until I ran across a hell of a deal for a full FMF exhaust.

i'd say it is probally the original oil and just metal from the break in

If its from the tranny side its normal.
Even on my 3 year old engine, if u put it in the sun light or shine a flash light on it, it will sparkle.

I've seen tranny oil come out of new 07 R's that looks like pure liquid silver.

phew, thank god. I was really worried. But back to the exhaust question. I took the enitre baffle out of the muffler, its like the 10 inch thing with the sparky.

I love the way it sounded. will i notice any gains with that out air box lid off, uni filter, and an hrc header?

It will be a noticable difference as long as you rejet for the increase in airflow.

is it common for there to be alot of clutch flakes on the tranny side. I am replacing the right side cover and found alot of sparkling.

Sparkling when light hits it is normal.
Any significantly sized flakes isn't though, at least not in my experience.

i just did the tranny side no noticebly big flakes. just fine ones. now im about to do the crank case and i dont have a socket big enough for the drain bolt on the bottom of the engine.

so can i drain it through the oil filter housing? will it work ok? my brother took all the sockets and all i have left is 14 and down.

I really doubt that will work. I dont think you'll ever get it to drain fully that way. Maybe borrow a socket? Buy one by itself at a autoparts store, walmart, etc. Use a crescent wrench?

LRD exhaust are POS's. In my experience with them. My Frind got one last week for his 07 It broke when we were putting it on. Not to mention They didn't send everything needed to install it. It was a slip on. I'd go a different route if it were me

trans oil doset get filtered?, if you found metal in the filter then you need to take it in, or back to whoever you bought it from.
I change my oil and filter every trip to the dunes 2 or so days or every time to the track.
I had a 02 400ex my girlfriend used to ride I bougt it new and changed the oil every 2 mounths untill I sold it no proublems ever.
our 450's every time they get back from a trip, otherwise you will have crank proublems mid year
also go to a auto parts store and put a breater filter on the crank case breater (its in the air box) thats a life saver, I have no idea why honda and yamaha dont do this from the factory

What side is the tranny? The left?

Also, so if you pull your oil filter out and there is fine 'flakes' thats normal? :ermm: I am confused!

LH side is the engine not trans
fine metal flakes (on the engine side or the oil filter) mean get out your wallet, and go through the motor.
mine went befor i caught it ran fine just seized up on a ride no warning.
when my yamaha went the rod broke and cost me a cylinder, head and cases.
If you see the trouble signs dont risk it fix it befor it dose more damage.
also replace the oil pump, some guys dont but when the fine metal goes through there it makes fine pits and will cause another unexpected falure down the road.

so...

fine metal on right = ok
fine metal on left= bad
flakes on right= bad
flakes on left= bad

correct? So if I go look at a 450R and I ask to pull the oil filter and look at it and there's fine metal in it, thats bad correct? Also.. say he just changed it.. if I ride it for about 10 minutes then look at it, will there be metal in there again?

(when I say metal, I mean like that real fine stuff or even flakes)

Correct, you should never see anything but oil in the filter. No sign of metal what so ever.

Good news. i finally got the sockets and did the crank(engine side) and no metal in oil or filter!!!! thank god. so do you think it was the original oil

Probably. You always get a little bit on the first change. Thats why they tell you to change it at 20 hrs when new. I done mine after the first ride, or hour or so. Then 2 hours more.
