Leaking gas

I tried starting my quad the other day and turned the gas on and started the bike to warm it up but I never turned the gas off when I was done and when I got home gas had leaked from the overflow hose from my carb. Any ideas why this is happening? Could it be my hose is split or is there something more serious? Thanks ahead of time.

are you asking because you saw the hose was split....if so dont worry they are always split. Could be a stuck float.

No I didnt see it split, just curious. If it is a stuck float what is involved with getting that fixed? I'm assuming removing the carb but is it something I could do with average mechanical skills or do I need to take it somewhere

no you could fix it yourself.....just take the float bowl off and go from there

sometimes you can get lucky and tap on the float bowl and get it to stop!!

So that is what it is? Nothing else I should check or try out? What causes the float to get stuck, what can I do to prevent it? Thanks

A little more detail would help alot. Where exactly is it leaking from. Your float needle could have dirt on it. Take that off and check that also. It could also be your carb drain screw. Have you takin apart your carb recently? What year is your quad? There are many threads on this subject.

it is a 2000 honda 400ex. The gas is leaking from the overflow hose and that is the only place I can tell. Is that enough info or what else can I help you with?

Smack it with a screw driver. Thats what I did and it cured it.

Or taked the bottom of the carb off and clean it all up inside cause their could be dirt in it.
