It can be a pain in the arse! I used a rag and put it over the insert to protect it from the channel locks I used. I then got a socket with a Phillips head and used a ratchet to break the screw loose. You need something with some leverage to break the seal. Clamp the channel locks down on the insert with one hand and break the screw loose with the other. Mine had some kind of thread locker on it from the factory which is why it's so hard to turn.

If it is like I think it is and you dont mind wrecking it, try threading just the screw back in abit, and then use a pair of pliers and it should pull out.

Hopefully this helps.

Yeah I thought you just need the cap off. Never heard of needing to take the insert out of the bars to install hand guards. Sorry man, I 'm not sure if that comes out or not. The last time I put grips on that insert I believe was welded into to bars.

well i think it comes out because outside of the threads there is a hex shape for an allen wrench and it turns but it just isnt going anywhere. ill figure it out. i may just have to get a screw that size thread for the guard. thanks

they will come out, they are bar weights to smooth out vibrations. i took them out the stock bars and added them to my new bars. just thread the screws in without the bar ends and pull them out with some plyers. dont throw them out someone will buy them.
