umm i think they are best both rated for trails. I have a KFX400 and it does great on our trail and got lot of steep inclines that are sanded and long winding trails.... I spaced my wheels out 1.5 inches out so it really helps on tight turns... 450s are already wider A-frames which helps with turns. either one works for trails.

anything less than a 400 might be underpowered on a trail like i have. my buddy had a Yamaha 350 and it did alright but had to help him get it unstuck and he did once tip over bc its so small in tire width.

If you can afford a 450, then get a 450. Just my 2 cents:D

Im with airmobile101, if I could start over I probably would have went with a little better platform like an LTR. but I have so much into the ltz that I cant look back now. You can make the ltz just as fast and handle just as well but when it comes down to racing a 450 that has just as many mods as you do then you will probably get beat.

yup.... if you got the money.. go for a 450R... if you got a budget, get a 400.

I had a KFX400 and now have a KFX450R and while both machines are great. I think that the 400 had better trail handling and smoother power. The 450 has so much raw power it wants to spin the tires a lot more, granted it has to do with rider control. Either machine is great but it is all up to you. If I had to do it all over again I might have went with the LTZ400 with fuel injection. Hope that helps.

and just on that note I ran down a kfx450r in the dunes on my 400. only mods were the OSHC's, full yoshi pipe, dyna, drz kit.

i agree with kawiryder. a new LTZ400 would be a better investment. the trails i have here.. i would chose the 400 over the 450r. the 450r would be ideal for race tracks or a side by side race.
