need quick help. went look at a 1992 mustang (4 cyl.), and when I was test driving it, it didn't have a fifth. When I would try to shift, its like it would'nt do anything. The guy said he "thinks" its a 4-speed. He does'nt know anything about it. it only has 54k miles if that helps. so is it possible that it IS a 4- speed? thanks, neil

5th gear is probably gone. The 4 cylinders also used a t5 style 5 speed in them for the manuals. Does it jump out of any gears or reverse while driving? And was the clutch pedal adjusted correctly?

Thank you
justin

Why not, they easily accept a v8. I had the chance to get a full roller 4cyl mustang for $50 (blown engine and tranny) but I passed it up because I didn't have anywhere to put it. Wish I would've got it because either the 302, 351, or 460 I have in the garage would find a new home in it.

As far as a 4 speed? I'd go with jrspawn. Sounds like a T5 with a blown 5th gear.

Plus after you do the swap you are still paying 4 cyl insurance...

yea if its a standard then its just another broken T5, 4 cyl are great cars if you plan on doing a swap, drag guys use the 4 cyl springs for cheap upgrade, everything is readily available for them also, if u wanna go with good stuff just get a tubular front end and now they have them for just about any engine size you want.

We built a 79 Cobra around this time last year, I'm about to make a thread and it will have a video of it in there.

Aero nosed stangs (87-93) should not be 4 speeds, they should have a smaller version of the T5.
