TODAY Y RACE MY DS VS MY BROTHER YFZ
MINE HAVE SOME MODS:
-HMF SLIP ON, PINK WIRE CUT, K&N AIR FILTER
MY BROTHER YFZ HAS:
-TRINITY EXHAUST,CAM MOD,K&N FILTER

NOW ON EVERY RACE WE DRAG Y JUMP IN FRONT BUT WHEN HE PUT 3RD GEAR HE PASS ME REAL FAST....
I HAVE STOCK SPROCKET 14 ON FRONT 42 ON BACK

I WAS THINKING TO GET A 40 FOR THE BACK TO SEE IF I CAN KEEP MY 3 GEAR SPEED

IF ANY ONE OF YOU HAVE DRAG YOUR DS, IF ANY ONE OF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER MOD THAT DOES HAVE TO CHANGE PISTONS OR REPLACE CAMS, ANY TIPS OF SPROKCET COMBINATIONS THAT YOU ACTUALLY USE WILL BE GREAT BEFORE I START TO BUY !!!!!!!!!!

3rd gear? thats where im makin the passes on the yfz's

3rd gear is where our machines really start to shine. stock for stock i pulled a yfz. if anything i would think the yfz would get a jump because they are so much more torqy on the bottom. but you should reel him in.

OK BUT WHAT COMBINATIONS OF SPROKET YOU ARE USING I HAVE 14 ON THE FRONT 42 ON THE BACK AND ITS NOD DOING IT

I pull my buddies yfz with 14-42 combo...I only have a motoworks pipe, and wire cut, nothing else done. I also use a Stock filter as well.

I believe stock gearing on the 09 DS450 is 13 to 38.

I know the motoworks team was running this gearing with their 08 race team which seams weird since I'm guessing they aren't running stock motors.

I'm also guessing there wasn't anything done to the 09 engine that would make this gearing work any different on the 08s.

don't forget that on the 09 DS 450x MX that it has 8 inch wheels compared to the 08 which ran 9 inch wheels.

the gearing on the this bike would be more setup for MX/

why don't you try 13/39 or 13/42 i run this gearing for MX and trail and i love it, it won't give you the top end that you currently enjoy. but it gives you more pull out of corners.

i race mx with a yfz450 with 18" tires and stock gearing 13/38 its great off the bottom but top speed is slower but mx isnt about top speed though. i got out ran in the end against my friends stock yfz450 but i pulled away from him hard off the bottom but his taller tires he had more top speed. if you are wanting to race mx i bet the same gearing would be good for your machine

Dont you mean 14/38 Thats stock gearing for the YFZ450. Iam running 18" tires and Iam running 15/38 and I like it. I have never raced a DS-450. But back when I had 20" tires I raced a Renagade 800 and 3rd gear on is when I started to pull him and by 5th gear I was a good 3-4 quads a head.
