My carrier bearing went out a few days ago and i've tore thr rear end apart to replace the bearings and my carrier is chewed up. so while i'm saving money to buy a carrier, i'm gonna tear the whole quad down and paint the frame, do a tune up on the engine, and possibly buy a few parts and put on it so here's what i started with

Do ya'll have any suggestions on color combonations, i was thinking of black frame, swingarm, and subframe. or a brighter silver frame and a black subframe and swingarm

Ouch, I'm actually replacing my carrier bearings right now too. I think an all black frame would look good

this is the third time in a year and a half that this has happened. i'm saving money for a twin row carrier. I think i'm going to paint the frame a bright silver and the subframe and swingarm black.

I have to replace mine also. What was the hardest part about removing the carrier? Were any special tools required? I saw the thread that PAPPY posted on removing the carrier and it didnt look to difficult.

Black is to common. Go with something differant. Are you going to PC or paint? I would go with like a midnight blue or even a dark purple (egg plant) that way it looks black from a distance, but up close it has color.

Its very easy to take apart and the thread pappy did describes how to do it to a T. The Locknut seems to give everyone problems but if you put anti-seize on the threads it spins right off

I'm going with a bright silver metallic and its just going to be paint cause i dont have the money to powdercoat.

Nice build so far!

Your battery box looks nice but............................

how much air is it blocking from the oil cooler? W/o that it has some touble getting enough air..

Gibson
12-22-2008, 09:50 AM
it isnt blocking any air, the headlights and plastic will sit on top of it, so nothing should be different, and it should pull enough air in from the sides, i'm thinking of putting air shrouds on it anyways

looks good so far,but if you actually plan on riding it,dont expect the paint to look good forever. Some clear acrylic over the paint will help it wear some but obviously not like pc.;)

Gibson

o i kno it fades over time, when its completely dry, i'm going to put a coat or two of wax on it. But it's industrial grade paint, so its tougher than normal paint

Gibson
12-30-2008, 06:19 PM
i also ordered my twin row carrier yesterday, and i'm not going to worry about painting my frame right now, i'm going to leave it alone, i've found an AC blackline bumper for 83 dollars shipped and i might buy it. but when my stuff comes in, i'll post some more pics, if ya'll have any coments or questions feel free to leave them

Buy a skid plate for the swingarm. Thats the only way that paint you put on there will last a while.

Gibson

ok got some more stuff painted, i cut the un-needed tabs off my subframe earlier and painted it
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk34/crg10493/100_1041.jpg

Here's what it looks like right now, my carrier will be in tomorrow, then i just have to wait on my other parts that i painted to finish drying

Not sure exactly what it was but we had some of this epoxy clear coat that you practically needed a hammer to chip. Extremely hard stuff.

While your at it, take your headers off and hit them with some high temp paint. Makes the headers look much better IMO.

Yeah my stock headers always vexed me when they looked all rusty and dirty.

Gibson

IMO i dont like the look of painted headers, Stock headers are stainless so i spray mine with acid (aluminum brightener) and it cleans them right up. I've run into a problem, i get the wiring hooked up right, i put it back together like it came apart, the neutral light wont come on, and it won't even try to start. i kno it isn't the battery because i just charged it

im confussed...why did you tear everything off of that frame and not paint it.seems like you could of just took the swing arm and sub frame off if you were not going to paint the whole frame.

Sounds like a bad ground.

Gibson
01-04-2009, 12:26 PM
Yea i know that it seems kinda stupid to strip it all of the way down to the frame, i had every intention of painting it, but i wanted to get it back together, I got the electrical problem fixed, it was a bad ground.I had to tweak and adjust around on the carb to get it running right this morning. I put a 42 pilot jet in it, dropped the needle one slot, and turned the mixture screw 2 turns out, and i'm still running the stock main jet. I rode it for about 20 minutes today and it runs great. Me and my dad adjusted the valves last night and it runs better and idles really smooth. I'll post some pictures later today i'm going to ride it a little bit more :macho

Well i finallygot some pictures of it, i rode it the other day and covered it in mud. I washed it early and took some pics. I didn't get it all of the way clean but what do ya'll think?
