Sort of ..lol

I wanted to add a new wide angle to my arsenal, so I scooped up a Nikkor 14-24mmf2.8 and while I was there I added some things to make my work a little easier in the wildlife photography department.

A Nikkon TC1.4 converter adds some reach to my big lens. Now I can stay 50 yards back and fill the frame

It was pretty dark today thanks to an approaching storm, however everything worked well.

It needed to be a bit darker outside for a slower shutter speed, but it was a decent test for the new lens! I also got a new Gitzo pan head for my tripod...$350 bucks! And I thought quads were costly!

There are alot of abandon homes around, they make for interesting photographs. After deer and bear season are gone, I intend to explore a few that are easily an hours walk from any road.

Great Shots Ken, I've been meaning to ask you a few questions about camera equipment as well..

We've been looking at Nikons lately and We've narrowed it down to eithe a D90 or D60. From what I understand, the D90 has video capability, but is it worth the extra $$ to get a D90?

If you can swing it, get the D90. Its basically the same camera I shoot but in a plastic body

Go with the D90. I have a D40 which is basically an older version of the D60 and it does everything I need it to do, but if I had to do it over again and the D90 was out, I would have spent the extra $$$. The HD video seems to be pretty damn good from what I've seen.

Great pictures Ken!

Wikkid pictures Ken ...... I especially love the ones of the old buildings.

Do you ever convert any of your digital photos into full size prints? Let me know because I'm sure that you'll be taking a few shots that would be worthy of going up on the walls of my recroom once I start remodeling.

Yep, mainly racing posters for people and normal prints etc. I was thinking of you when I spied the old buildings, I remember you said you liked them and barns:p Today was ok, just dreary out. I would have stayed on the deer longer but once the light died off it was pointless.

I took this a few months back, and the guy who owned the buck had several 16x20's made for his office. I plan on heading to Cades Cove in Tennessee next fall, thats where you get the majority of your deer and bear shots that are featured in so many calendars and such. I wanted to go this year but it didnt work out

Well I'm starting renovations on my recroom after the New Year and going to be in need of some nature prints .... if you're willing to sell a few prints , I'm willing to buy. :)

I gotta admit Papp, 3 years ago you didn't know the difference between a lens cap or a beer cap.

I guess you read that digital camera's for dummies book. You get an A+

Nice work.

LOL..thx:p I have great pictures from when I shot film, infact the only art in my house is stuff I shot and has been that way for 20 years.

The digital switch was more gear related as I did not start out with decent stuff...and the learning curve of the post processing work is still "in progress" but after a few hundred hours of reading it is starting to sink in. I'm not a tech head so it sinks in slower then most:p

B-E-A-UTIFUL shots! How are you liking that 1.4x? Sharpness, speed, focusing, etc?

I'm looking at getting a 300mm f4 at some point this winter and would like to get a Canon 1.4x II or a Kenko with it.

Pappy

The above deer pics were taken with the 1.4 installed, proof is before your eyes:p

Being installed on fast glass helps a ton, and on teh D300 its makes it effectivly a 630mm. All the deer shots here are handheld, but on slower glass a tripod would be needed.

A few more.

The water is dirty from all the rain, ice and snow we have had this week....and about 15 feet higher then normal.

Nailing these birs in the air is harder with the camera then it is with my 870!

Pappy, your pics are amazing!!! Got anymore waterfowl pics?

Pappy
12-21-2008, 06:53 PM
Not many on the birds, but I intend to work on beefing up my waterfowl shots.

Just like anything, I gotta practice:p I want to head back to the shore where waterfowl, eagles and other birds are more numerous and hopefully im tuned up enough to get some killer stuff. We just dont have many around here to shoot so getting practice is hard.

These are from where I am going to go back to, Blackwater national Wildlife Refuge...just hope we have better lighting when I am there next time
