I want to jack up my 400ex to work on it, I see some guys use a stand in the center of the quad, I have an old floor jack that went south after 25yrs, so I am going to get something to raise the quad up, can it be done with some of these newer lightweight alum floor jacks, or should I get a motorcycle lifting jack, I was hoping to do it with a floorjack. any thoughts

Chet

A floor jack works fine, but a motorcycle jack is much more stable.

Like others had mentioned, a floor jack for cars and trucks will work but, stability will be a big factor. I use an ATV/Motorcycle jack and they work fantastic. Mine came with tiedown straps for added security. It's also convienient to be able to lift, pivot, and move the bikes around with little effort.

The one I bought from sears is the 1,500 lb professional model that cost $159.00. They sell another one for $99.00

Get this one. The cheaper one has the hydraulic bottle out near the end of it which screws up getting the jack under there because it hits the nerf bars.

I use a old plastic milk crate with some blocks of wood on top of it. it was free

the cheaper craftsman one does not affect getting it under with nerf bars...

Chet,
Check Harbor Freight if you have 1 where you live. I bought an atv jack for like 70.00 on sale.

I just lift mine and place a jackstand up front on the bumper and 2 jackstands on the axle or frame depending on where im working on, works well.

speedy quad i had three of those stands. and the release piston to lower it broke in half on all of them. i got the billet one and it works wonders.

I have the same one the Speedy has and I would rather have the other more expensive craftsman if I had it to do over again. Actually when I bought mine they didn't have the aluminum one
