Oil temp light stays on

Hi guys I'm new here and have a question.
I have a 1997 400 trx low miles , just a farm tool.
The problem is that the red oil temp light will come on at start-up and stays on sometimes .Other times it doesn't come on. This is a new thing,actually this is the only issue I've ever had with this bike !!
It will happen any time any weather or temp outside.No rhyme nor reason.
Any thoughts ??

uhhh the 400ex wasnt made in 97 the
xr400 was which is a dirt bike if thats what you mean but you say its a farm tool. I am confused ????

Probably a 400 utility, such as a Foreman. Since it comes on when the engine is cold, I'd say its probably electrical, such as wires shorting out.

wykyd450r, yeah thats what I have a foreman 400.Iguess I should have written TRX 400 instead of 400 trx.
I'll have to look for those wires.Do they come from the fan or engine?or any other sneaky spot to look? Is this just a warning light or can some damage be done if not found right away ??
