Anybody got any ideas for something to plug the exhaust with during washing besides an exhaust plug? Started the 400 up today and it was running like crap and smoking because I got some water in there. I am getting a new exhaust with much larger opening so i know the problem will be alot worse. I wash my quad religiously so I need something to plug the exhaust at least until I pick up a purpose made exhaust plug. Best i can think of is wadding up a rag and stuffing it in there?

If the exhaust is cold then just use a small garbage bag or ziploc bag to cover the whole exhaust and go easy around the exhaust power washing it.

I power washed mine the other week with the same type of plug from yoshimura, came with exhaust. Today I started it up and there was water coming out of the connecting parts of the exhaust. (black water/oil mixture).

Im going to use a latex glove, I think that is the best

I'm liking the latex glove and bag with ziptie idea. I have plenty of both.

What's wrong with an exhaust plug? They make different sizes?

Nothing wrong with them if they fit right, I just will be washing my quad before i get a chance to head down to the shop and need a temporary fix in the meantime.

If you know the size of the opening you can go to the hardware store and get a rubber cork. I bought one but it was too big. It was like $5.

wish i had a real exhaust plug thats over 2". Hornet where did you get yours? I usually use a small shop towel stuffed in there and a spray paint cap over it. The towel soaks up anything that gets through.

It would probably be easier if you spent the $4 to get a plug.

Finally getting my upgrades in motion. Ordered the exhaust last night and got a wicked good deal so I will have to head down to the shop and pick up a plug with the cash I saved. Only worry is I have only seen smaller plugs there, I hope they carry larger ones as well. As for today, big snow storm on the way, can't wait to ride!

Your all either extremly lazy, or poor. Go to your local dealer, and pick up a wash plug! Mine was $5!

I'm not lazy, but I'm cheap. If I can do something easily for free I'd save the money. In this case I will be picking up a purpose made plug though, just hope they have a large enough one.

Don't worry, the FMF's are HUGE!

That's good to know because I'm pretty sure they have the fmf ones.
