I was wandering if anyone could tell me how much power i would gain by intalling a 480 big bore kit from Cylinder works. I now am running a stock piston, bigger intake and exhaust valves, ported head, HRC cam. IThe bigger piston is gonna be a stock compression wiesco piston. I was just wandering if anyone could give me an idea of power gain before i buy the kit. ??? worth it?? or not thanks guys

i would imagine it would make a noticable difference between stock and 480 even if the comp is the same. you should look around for a 12:1 480 piston. you can still run pump fuel, be reliable, and be faster.

hey i also have a question for you. what valves are you running on the stock piston. i have a brand new ported head with +1mm oversized exhaust valves and stock size intakes. Will the oversized valves clear the stock piston?

I'm not 100% sure what kind they are. I bought the head already done. I know theyre one piece vavles instead of the oem style. and that they do clear. Or I guess they do, it runs fine. lol What is the stock compression? like 10.5:1 or 11?

Whats the highest compression you can run on pump gas?

we just bought a motor with a athena 480, 13:1 piston, sparks cam (not sure which one). im ready to ride with it. it think its gonna rip!

stock compression is 10.5:1 on 04/05, and its 12:1 on 06+ models. you can run up to 12.5:1 on pump gas, after that its all race gas, and if you want to mix you might as well run full race gas, and bump the comp up to like 14:1

do the ER's have a hard time turning over the high comp. motors?? im in the process of tearing my 06 ER down for a freshening (piston, rings, port work, cam, valves, exhaust repack) and have heard that there could be a problem with the high comp... if so, whats the highest i can go without worry??

Compression on startup is the same with any piston that you use. That is what the decompression does. After it is running, the decompression is disengaged and that is when you will get the higher compression.

does anyone have any experience with cylinder works 480 kits?

chad502ex from drg uses one with a +3mm stroker combo and he is have great results from it. and it has thick sides, so its reliable and he made some great numbers on it.

I bet that sounds awesome. Whats the displacement up to with that do you know.? The Cranks alot of work tho. I might just wait till next winter to tear into it and have to split the cases. I just got mine back goin from another shattered frame. lol

its a 501 i believe.

its not that much work to split the cases and through a crank in it. take a whole day and have a dedicated space and you can have it running that night.

Its only been back together 3 weeks tho. lol. I'll prob just wait. I can pick up a big bore kit from cylinder works for about $350. And dunno kno how much i can get a crank for. I'll just save up and do it later. Maybe it'ss be enough power to fet my big tail movin. Im only 6'2 260. But I'll most likely get the kit... and Then i'll get some holeshots for sure. lol. thanks for the help
