I bought my 400ex used and had a lot of stuff already done to it. First off I guess I need to know what the CDI box is and what it does? Are the CDI box and the regulator the same thing. How do I know if I have aftermarket? What benefits will I gain from an aftermarket one?Sorry it's a lot of questions but I'm a rookie with the aftermarket stuff.
Thanks A Lot In Advance.

post a pic of both BIG flat sides of the CDI.

The CDI and Regulator are two different things. The CDI manages the ignition curves and spark advance. the Regulator does just that...regulates the voltage to your non-ignition systems (i.e. lights, charging the battery, etc.)

An after market CDI will raise your rev limiter and a really good one will include whats called a "soft touch" rev limit and advance the timing thru-out the entire timing curve, allowing you to add more fuel to your jetting.
