I have almost decided to keep my R, but have a few questions before I become certain. A friend of mine had Rocky Ridge gusset his 250R frame for his 330EX motor, and I was wondering if they're still in business. If so, has anyone had this type of work done by them and how much would it cost?

I have alot of experience behind a welding hood, so I wouldn't be afraid to do it myself. If anyone has gusseted their frames personally, where did you put the gussets at? I know the major weaknesses of the R frame, but I'm sure there are places that might crack that I would never even think of. Also, did you just freehand the gussets or get a pattern from someone?

Thanks in advance,

David

I think that under the engine back by the footpegs is one place that they put gussets on an R frame.

Rocky Ridge did my frame in 98, he did a great job and it never cracked.
We are now doing the same service for about the same price plus adding a few more gussets we thought were needed.
Rocky Ridge is still in business but I do not have his number. Give Rico a shout I think he has it.

Thanks alot guys.

Jeff, do you mind if I ask how much? I know shipping would be quite expensive. If I get it gusseted, it HAS to be repowdercoated :D

I guess I should've looked around before I asked. But oh well. Those gussets look very good. I know mine would probably hold just as well, but would never be that pretty. Who is the main welder at the QuadShop?? After reading some of Jeff's posts, I pray it's not him ;)

I wish it was me! Rowlrag is the welder by trade for TQS. It runs $350 for gusseting and powder coating. Shipping will be around $40

Well, I might just have to do that. Could I get it done cheaper for no powdercoat?

If you're thinking about having the job done, definitely give Jeff a call. The frame they did up for my dad's bike looks fantastic. I'm only now getting enough time between races and school to finally rebuild his machine with it.

As soon as we get his ride torn apart, I'll be sending another frame off to 'em.

Sounds good to me. Jeff, I'll get with you after the holidays so we can get something worked out. It might take a while for me to scrape together the cash, but my frame definately needs some stress relief

Thanks again

Rico can you do like a review on it? I just want to see where they put all the Gussets at mostly. Sounds awesome. What color will it be?

warriorman,,look for a thread I started in the open forum about the 416 bein tore up..

Jeff or rowlrag one will be taken pics right after they gusset it so you can see were the actually plates are welded in..sometimes it's hard to see once the frames been PC'd. If you quadshop boys read this,,quit reading and get my chit done..
