Whats up guys I ordered a 416cc kit with a stage 2 hot cam from golden West. Well I recieved it today. I oredered a 11.1 Piston. They sent me a 10.1 piston. I e-mailed them and hope they get that straightened out. For my real question the piston is 87mm. The gasket set I got from Cometic is for 96'-05' and it says 86mm?

The 400ex wasn't even around in 96. Did you order the XR headgasket maybe?

On the back of the package it says HON TRX400/ XR400 96'-05' 86MM. Mine being an 07'. and the piston is 87mm?

I used a stock size gasket which is 85mm in my 416cc
(87mm piston) when I did mine. I have had it in for 6 months with no problems. So the 96 should work fine. The piston does not go up that far anyway. 426cc(88mm piston) or 440cc(89mm piston) I would just use the the 440 (89mm) gaskets. Steve

I would NOT run an 86mm gasket with a 87mm piston. I have seen three JE 416ex's, which all had 10.8:1 comp, blow the cometic "extreme seal" headgasket within the first 2 hours of ride time. One of those being my personal quad. This was not caused by the head studs they were fine.

I talked to Kenz Cycle from AZ and also a Cometic Rep about the issue. They both suggested running an 88mm head gasket on the 87mm bore. These can be ordered directly through cometic they are .027 thickness.

When Kenz Cycle builds their favored 426ex motors, they use 440 head gaskets. It safe to use 1mm larger but not 1mm smaller.

I would use 85 again with another 416. 426 or 440 i would just use the the 440 gaskets. The xr honda one is thinner than the ex one but It is not that big of a difference. It just evens the compression to what wiseco pistons say I believe for the xr specs. Steve

What??? :huh

Maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying cause I'm having some trouble with your grammar, but it sounds like you said you used a 85mm piston in your 416EX motor. Are you aware of the fact that the piston size (in mm) is what determines the engine size (in cc)? So an 85mm is a stock 400cc, well actually 397 to be exact. The only way to achieve 416 is to run an 87mm piston. It's impossible to use an 85mm piston and get a 416cc engine unless you take stroke into consideration but that's a completely different conversation. If you are talking about the gaskets, you should run whatever type is recommended for the bore you're running.

I was talking about using the 85mm gasket with the 87 mm piston for the 416cc. I edited my post above too. You got it all figured out sorry for not specifyng what they were. I just assumed you knew what I was talking about. Sorry again, Steve

Well I got the piston straightened out. Gave them a call and they were def. Pleasent to deal with and seemed very professional about it. Tere sending me the 11.1 piston. Now for the 86mm gasket with an 87mm bore. I am nervous and have to do some more reasearch into it.. I am taking in what you guys are saying. Anyone now where I can send my motor our with all the parts to have it al installed. Thanks,
