450r engine stand

I have built a couple of engine stands for my motors. They help out alot with keeping the engine up right and organized when pulled out of the bike. Also helps when working on it when it is outside the bike. I was just wondering if people would be interested in me building them one.

haven't really thought about a price yet. i guess i need to price some steel/time/welding supplies

another thing: i notice you have an 05 bike. are the 05 motors and 06 motor case holes the same? all i have is 06 motors.

I'm definitely interested. Get you a price and we'll talk, but I'm also in the same ship with the 05'. I think the mounts are the same but can't be sure about it.

Ya I'm not sure about the case mounting holes. But if they are different I don't think they are that much off. If anything it will just hold the engine on a slightly different angle.

A few of my friends have recommended around $50. and on another site they recommended $50 no more then $75.

The cost i'm going to set this will be $50.

i havent decided yet, just trying to get a feel for what people would be willing to pay, not looking to make a fortune...I think that would probably be + shipping, and i'm thinking it would cost about $10-12 to ship it? so probably around 60 shipped...

again, just tryin to get as much feedback as possible before i set the price

I'd buy one when I get my 450R.

Maybe put some rubber on the bottom of it? Are they square when sitting. (i.e. do they rock at all?)

yes, they are stable, no rocking at all.

Looks like a great product to put on e-bay. $50 seems reasonable. It isn't like a car stand where you can expect to have lots more sales volume.

It does seem like a simple design change could allow this to work for many more quad and bike engines with just the front or back mounts being adjustable.

yes. if i can get ahold of more engines i could change the mount design. but the only engines i hae on my hands right now are 06+ 450r engines

the cases are not the same. but i'm ether hoping to have a 05 motor in my shop by next week or trying to get someone to send me a case

So, I've built several now, and sold and shipped a few out. If you are interested please let me know. here are a few new pics of more that have been built. These are still only for 06+, still working on coming up with other engines to build them for other models. I also made a listing for them on ebay if you are interested and for some reason would rather buy through there...item #230316032086, but the price is a little higher there due to all the fees ebay charges.

It's a good design and looks like it works well for top end and clutch or stator side work, but not good for slitting cases. I prefer the stands that I use, they came from a machine shop and were used when doing valve jobs on automotive cylinder heads. They'll hold big block heads so I know they can support any motorcycle or ATV engine I set on them. They're easily positioned and allow for transmission/crank work.

well i can pretty much build anything, thats just the design i have come up with.

what i originally built the stand for is all the spare motors around our shop and taking them to races. i hate to lay a spare in the trailer on the ground. on these stands, it holds them in the up right position nice, but i have also found it to help when workin on the motors.

I could also take a car engine hoist and build a motocycle engine stand out of it, but how much would that cost? (you wouldn't be able to keep getting them in mass quantities for $5 at auctions) and how much would it cost to ship. I would have to charge people several hundred dollars for that, and most people, if anybody, would want to spend that kind of money on a quad engine stand...

To those of you showing your own designs, great job, and thanks for your input, but I am building these for people that don't have the equiqment, or don't have the ability, or don't have the time to build their own. This this is the design i'm building and this is the design i'm selling...want one? :D

well put. IMO the others are kind of rude for posting there own. I know they are just trying to show there opinions on the subject but cmon man....

You have come up with a great product. maybe you should advertise a little more and who knows.... you may get a quite a bit of money out of the deal.
