I have just put a new top end on a 500 Vinson, I also jetted the carb and put an hmf pipe on it. It will start, but idles rough. The mixture screw seems to have no effect what so ever. It is idling lean because when I place my hand over the airbox inlet it smooths out. No matter how far out( or in for that matter) I turn the pilot screw I notice no difference in idle or mixture. Do I need a larger pilot jet? and if so why did this change just because I jetted it and put on a pipe. And would the idle adjustment have any affect on this? HELP!

Your complaining of rough idle, you should start with the idle adjustment to see where that gets you. What is the manufacturer's recommended specs on jetting for your modifications. If you turn the screw out more than 2.5 turns you should probably bump the pilot up one jet size and see what your get. Anytime you add more airflow or help the motor move air out faster your gonna need a rejet. Adding a pipe to your ride requires a rejet for sure.
