Hi everyone, I was just wondering if I wanted to start racing XC which would be a better platform to star building from, a 87 R or a 88 R?

I think the 86-87 stock frames hold up better, but I also think the 88-89 frame handles better...........Just my thought

The frame geometry is exactly the same. It's the -1 swingarm on the 88-89 that helps them to handle better.

Thanks for the info. So can I install a 88 swing in a 87 frame? is there any mods that have to be done? Also ive heard that the transmition in the 88 is way better..is this true? if so can i put a 88 transmition in an 87 motor?

to run an OEM 88-89 swinger on the 87 frame you'll need to fab some rear engine frame mounts. otherwise the engine will start to rip itself from its cradle. any year tranny will work in any yeat cases as long as you use the complete unit.
