picked up my new 2009 Yamaha yfz450r from mdk motorsports in Folsom ca.
great sales team had me in and out in about 30 min less $8200. otd.
Drove about 5 min to prairie city ohv park to do some break-in time. it was cold 42 degrees brrrrrrr, windy and foggy.

After unloading and getting her warmed up took to the ATV track for some laps to see how it rode. ergos are great, but will be installing fasst fleex bars asap. this is a very quiet machine stock (waiting on dr d pipe), shifting is a little different seems to have a bigger lifting gap from 1st to second hit neutral a couple of times.
The front shocks are very stiff, (used to lt axis) need to figure out adjustments. Power is great thru all gears, but there is a slight lag when first push throttle. I think a pipe and intake ( FCI) will clean this up. Throttle push is very easy, no more Yamaha thumb :D . it is very stable off of jumps and you feel very centered. The new foot pegs are nice but seem a bit high mounted for tall riders (waiting on laegers pro nerfs to arrive) this should help lower pegs about an inch. Not that impressed with the tires they roll going hard into a corner,so will put my itp 18s on the rear and itp on the front. The new seat lets you get way over in the corners very easy. The steering is very light and would benefit with a steering stabilizer. I like this quad very much and with a little tweaking and part installs will be top notch

Sorry no action shots was be myself… :eek2:

Nice, motosx!
Other than the peg height, love the rider position, way more room.
Looks like they smoothed the PC track a bit.

Man, can't pull the pics up from the work computer. Had to use my Instinct to see them. Boy that bike looks good. I like those stock arms and the shocks remind me of Ohlins. That is one sleek looking bike. Not a big fan of the front fenders though.

also remove air box lid.
turn your high and lo speed compression all the way out on your front shocks. and raise the preload on front shocks all the way up.
these front shocks are very stiff.
you can get nerfs from laegers
http://yfz450.theatvchannel.com/component/content/article/1-news/89-laeger-racing-first-to-market-with-yfz450r-aftermarket-parts
and a exhaust from dr.d

I backed off on the spring preload all the way and it helped a lot, along with the hi and lo speed compression set as low as they will go.

Adjusting your shocks is not difficult. Just be gentle with turning the adjustments. They click at each setting, so count how many clicks you change it and write it down. That way you can go back to where it was before you changed it.
The adjustment screws are shown in the owner's manual.

Update on the DrD pipe, John at GWC emailed me last night. They have made some more changes to the pipe so mine won't ship until after New Years. Oh well.

My yfzr has been over at Precision Racing the past two weeks between races. They are using it to design the mounting system for the yfzr. The Precision is by far the best steering damper for quads. Mount should be finalized this week.

the air box under the seat has a lid that snaps on to the airbox. you would have to remove this to get to your air filter. unsnap lid and toss away. this will gain about 2 hp. see dyno sheets below
