I wanted to get some opinions on air rifles. I shoot a lot with a 22 rifle and MKIII pistol. My daughters (9&12) like to shoot the BB guns and I thought they may like to move up to a air rifle. What brands do you like best?THANKS!!!!!

depending on how far you want to go with the air rifles, you can range from mediocre quality, to some awesome quality. basically it comes down to money talks.

Gamo and Benjiman brands are a good place to start, RWS is starting to get into the higher end, (Very Nice!), and then the Ulitmate is the AirForce Condor, and Talon series, (used by Navy Seals).

All the major firearms mfg.'s have a line usually, Ruger, Winchester, Remington, Beretta, so look at those also.

I even have a couple of Chinese Knock-offs of the RWS line,(Tech Force brand), that are actually quite impressive for both power and accuracy. I'm talking 900 and 1100 FPS.
(But, STAY AWAY from any of the $70-$80 specials).
I have dropped numerous 15 to 20 lb opposums with a single shot, from a 1000fps .177 cal., at 25 to 40 yards.
and trust me,.... They were not "Playing" dead. LOL.

A .22 cal. running at 900+ fps, with a hollow point, will pretty much turn a rat inside-out., and Crows look like they got hit with a anti-aircraft missle.

some brands even carry a .25 cal. model, and the take-down power of those is impressive to say the least.

Here's a couple of places to go look at some various lines,
Hope this helps...

I had a benjiman air rifle i was powerful and accurate but i broke after a couple months. I say pick up a ruger 10/22, best plinking rifle you can get plus the mods you can find for it are endless. I will post a pic of mine if you want.

Remember guys, I just want something for play. If I wanted something for hunting, I got plenty of that. I thought my daughters would like to shoot a gun that would not make as much noise as the 22's.

440racer,
That Rem. 597 is a very sweet .22,
especially the TVP or Yellowjacket versions.
Wish I had one.

z400acdc,
you'd probably be quite happy with some of the middle range Tech Force models. med. to high power, pretty accurate, low cost. if you want to step up a bit from that, then take a good look at the Gamo's and Benjamin's. I recently picked up a nice Benjamin combo, that has change-out barrels, (one .177, and one .22) , on the same stock/action. I think it was on sale for around $115

here's a couple of pics of my modded bush gun. it started as a regular Winchester model 94, old style top eject, then came the Synthetic stock, tru-glo "iron"sights, Tru-glo optical Red dot sight, hammer extender, Three stage gel butt pad, Nylon sling, and i'm now using the new Hornady rounds that adds an extra 100 yards effective range.
What's that???? A 30-30 that is good for 300 yards? Yep!
(Now it's gotta come back apart for a nice re-blueing job)

I'll see if I can find some recent pics of the latest A.A.D.S. afflicted firearm. it's a SKS done up very nice with a Monte Carlo Synthetic, and a whole list that follows.

Thanks
I am not looking for anything hightech. If I need to shoot anything over 100yards, I will breakout the Remington 700BDL 22-250. I just want a plinker for my daughters with no mods. I try to get them to shoot my marlin auto 22 and MK111 22/45 hunter 22 pistol, but I think the noise makes them want to stick with the BB gun.

I;d go with a Gammo if you jsut looking to have a little fun here and there...mine is pretty accurate, its a little loud though...I got the viper model, I beleive they make a model called the whisper thats supposed to be a lot quieter...mine has just enough power to kill kittens and its pretty accurate, so I cant complain
