whats the biggest engine cc possible for the trx400ex engine ? Ive seen many 416 and 440 over bore kits and some 460 stroker kits. is it possible to get a over bore kit and combine it with a stroked crank to get even more cc out of the engine ? Or maybe somone has some custom sized cylinders out there that are even larger ?

i've seen 502cc

Yea, thats the biggest I think.. and the one I saw was liquid cooled!! Modded 400ex engine..

However, you can swap out engines with some work.. like the XR650 engine.. a sleeper..

yeah but a swap will cost so much more, but it would be cool though.

I dont remember who made it but I would not recomend it. YOu will be dumping money into it all the time and having so much work to keep it in spec. Most likely spending more time working on it than riding on it. A swap hower is a smart move. xr650 would most likely rape the built 502cc ex. They make a liquid cooled and air cooled versions of the motor. The liquid cooled makes much more power and is more responsive to mods. The air cooled is a sleeper because it looks so similar to the 400ex motor. Cooling fins and dual headers would make it hard to tell it wasnt the 400ex motor. It will still make a lot of power but the liquid cooled version is very impressive. 55HP with little mods done. 65HP is also easy to acheive. 65HP is basic mods not boring even boring it out. The engine is taller though and could cause some fitment issues and frame mods. The xr650 motor actually weigh less than the 400ex motor. A trx250r motor is one of the lightest motors and there aere kits sold to drop it in.

I found it.. but the url won't change so you'll have to find it.. when you go onto their site, click 'Engine Products' on the left (5 down). Once you click on 'Engine Products,' click on 'Honda,' then '400EX,' then scroll down until you see '500cc Big Bore Stroker Kit.' It doesn't provid much info, and after that there isn't a link to click on, so you must have to call them here: Phone (814)842-6159

look at what it comes with though.

"The kit consists of a new Honda frame gusseted and powder coated black. A new, complete 2001 Honda CR250 engine with a Built forward kick starter, a new high performance nickel plated exhaust, complete intake including carb and airbox, and complete cooling system including radiator."

they give you a whole new frame and aftermarket exhaust and what not. I would just a buy a r motor and do it myself buying parts used or something for much cheaper

yeah cause if you already have a quad frame might as well use it...but that is a nice kit though its all mounted already

that service honda kit is basically going to turn out like a 250r with 400ex plastics on it.

+4 and +4 is 460. +7 stroke and +5 bore is 483.

just wondering if anyone else has a company in mind that does big bore kits over 450cc ?

You can do bore and stroke job up to 460 with off the shelf parts...

Chad had a 502, and I believe there were two separate 505 builds, I think one was a Mickey Dunlap machine (fourstroke tech) and I'm not sure what the other was...

you can read about chads at www.chad502ex.com

Why do you want the biggest cc posible? Seems a waist of money to me, a well built 416 or 440 with a good rider is gonna be competitive.

If it were me doing this and I was dead set on big cc, I'd go with with a XR650 and a pack of tissues.:blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:

Because making the motor that's already in the quad larger is easier. NO fab work required other than the machining of the engine. Plus its cool to say you have the biggest motor of something...

I riden that 502 of chads he told me he was pushing 45 hps if I heard right, but that was a few years back.that quad had extreme torque it would climb the sickest hills on a wheely.
