why would you want a 250r?? You must live under a rock or something. Best handling sport quad, yet, to be made. Many people love their 250r's, untill 04 when the 250r was bascailly ruled out of pro of competetion, it was half 250r and the other half was 250r hybrids. A well done 250r with a good rider can hang with most people at tracks.

It sounds like a decent trade, I would look over it real close. I imagine the reason for the 400ex a-arms(almost identical, with exception of a-arm width(~1/4 off)) is that the ball joints went bad on the 250r a-arms. Check the brake calipers to see if they aren't sticking, swingarm if its stuck, bearings everywhere, frame for cracks, check for cracks in the swingarm(if it has a stock one). Look over everything, go to the 250r forum to find a more complete list of things to check. When rebuilding, the little things get expensive fast, don't trade for a O.K condition bike, more than likely it will need work in the very near future.

Think before you speak. Please reread what you wrote about the a-arms and shocks, seriously.

So if what you said is true. I can put 450r a-arms on a 400ex and have the same geometry as a 450r? Hell then whats the point of spending the extra money on the 450? Throw a 450 engine in a 400ex or even a 250r frame, 450r shocks and a-arms, boom a 450 is born...

Which 450?

thats not what he meant, he meant a 250r is designed for 250r parts, not 400ex parts.

the guy said he did the 400ex a-arms for the width,he said they were 2inches wider i thought to myself no way but i kept qiuet, lol. but looks like it wont make a dif. because my parents wont let me have two sport 4wheelers so the 416ex is mine i paid for it and the 450r which is torn apart(bad shift fork i believe)for a rebuild is mostly my dads but i can sell my 416 and use some of that for rebuilding the 450 so i think thats wat im gona end up doing.and no my parents do not like sport 4wheelers...
thanks for the replys guys

actually the 400ex and some stuff off the 450r are all interechangeable. Its not that each is designed for each machine. I mean some aftermarket parts are the same stuff for each machine. Just like the 88/89 250r grab bar is the same as the 04/05 450r grab bar, they are the same bolt pattern. The 400ex a-arms are the same as the 250r with the use of little spacers, but still work the exact same. All the shocks are interchangeable. Hell for a no-link rear on a 250r, a banshee rear shock is used in a good bit of applications.

Also, no the 400ex a-arms are not 2" wider than stock 250r
