Hey Brad, Why mess with a single a-arm? Is it for tt?

I'll jump in with a guess..
Seeins that the wheel travel will more than likely be the same cuz of camber limits, going to a long travel will allow a longer shock that will work better than a shorter shock. That would be nice!:)

Because I can't seem to get a "Nat'ls" legal dual A-arm cvt mini under 210 lbs. I have found that I can get the singles below the 180 lb area. I can't do much about the camber issue, but can on the caster and toe issues. Jack is correct in that a longer shock gives more precise movement than a shorter shock. But by going single A-arm, it:

1. lightens the spindle weight IMMENSELY!, not including 2 more heims, 2 ball joints, mounting system on the frame and an upper A-arm.

2. has a shorter shaft length to kingpin location, Than a dual A-arm spindle, which means I can run a longer A-arm and tuck it farther into the wheel which means less leverage is needed to steer and more leverage is needed to kick back into the riders arms. We don't run steering stabalizers, which means less weight.

3. A longer A-arm can have the same amount of wheel travel as a shorter arm, with less camber angle. Or, as in this case, can have more wheel travel with the same amount of camber angle. This one has over 7" of wheel travel.

I am not saying that I don't like or approve of dual A-arm quads... just not in the mini's, unless blitzing the woops is needed. Single A-arm bikes can have the same suspension travel as duals, they just can't respond as fast to the terrain. This is a WORCS Nat'l bike, so alot more trails and tight stuff, and should be atleast 30-40 lbs less than any dual A-arm quad out there and even more if those quads happen to be water cooled. And don't even get me going on weight biasing of these things :D :D

I hope that answers some of your questions... anyone that has ever talked to me knows I can't help but talk.:huh

Robb,
Not worth it in weight reduction of the arms, but lightening up the spindles and brakes is a good area.;)
