as it says. i was wondering if i put a 440 kit on my z, will it keep up with the 450's?

im sure that side by side specs wont even compare

i am going to start racing hare scrambles this spring and im not sure if my z is good enough. i dont expect to have the best quad right off the bat but i want to be able to compete in the lower class. right now the engine is stock. i have a white bros full exhaust and a few other small mods.

i like the fact that it has reverse. i think that could help alot in the race (i could be wrong) so i am looking at kawi 450's so i can keep my reverse.

although price has me looking at 450's with no reverse! but overall i am leaning to the kawi.

so here is my delima. put $500 to $800 in my z (thats about all i can afford) and have a so so quad

or...

sell my z and my r6 and have enough cash to buy a slightly moded kawi 450 or a semi highly moded honda or yamaha

For your first year of hare scrambles i would say stick with the stock bore for now. Trust me power does not win a hare scramble. I think your best bet is to spend that money on suspension first. Good suspension is the best bang for your buck in hare scrambles.

I race hare scrambles and I'm still using 400 and I am usually in contention for the hole shot, even got it a couple of times. The thing that lets me beat up on the 450's is I have good suspension set up for me.

Honda 450 shocks on the front with a stock rear shock. All of them have been rebuilt and set up for me. I also have a different link on the rear.

The suspension is a must if your gonna run harescrambles. That would be the first thing before a 440 kit.

so stock honda shocks fit? did you have to change anything else to get them on?

Suspension all the way. Don't waste your money on motor work. If you just want more power go for it, but don't get it just because you feel you need it to be competative. As others have said, XC racing is a competition of skill and intelligent decisions.

You shoudn't have to do anything, they should bolt right up. I heard the TRX450R 04-05 have softer springs than the 06-newer models. Not sure if thats true, but mught be something to look into.

my z has the Athena 435 and yes it does beat 450's in C class. most are stock bore but it still beats em. but yeah definitely have the suspension before the motor. and remember, its only so much quad before the rider's skill factors in. If anyone sees this post, my 04 is for sale. here's a link to the page. I'm located in southern Connecticut.
