I have 1986 atc 200x with a bad axle. I have a 1984 250r atc +4 axle and want to put it in. Is there any way this can happen?

yes, its a direct fit. I have one in mine. Beware of some things. If you use the 200x hubs on the 250r axle(stock width), you will be almost 49" wide. I have a durablue 86/87 200x +4 and its the same as a stock 83/84r. The difference is mad up in the hubs, 86/87 200x hubs are offset(like 400ex) and 83/84 hubs are flat(85-89 atc/trx 250r & 350x) You need the 250r locknuts(83 and 84 used different sized nuts). You will need a sprocket, stock 83/84 250r is 42t, I have a 36 on mine. That cost me something close to $80. The 200x brake stuff is a direct fit. Do you have the stock carrier or aftermarket? If stock, you will need to file down the adjustment tabs(as the bolts and nuts on the back of the sprocket bind on it).

I slid it in today and the seal on the left side isn't making contact with the surface on the axle. it alson seems that the rear sprocket isn't going to line up with the front one. It seems that it will be too far to the outside. Its possible that I don't have the axle i thought.

On mine the seal goes up to the sprocket hub and chain lines up. You might have an 82 250r axle or 83-85 200x axle, both very similar, but seals and chain don't line up. In case you didn't know, 82 250r and 83-85 200x axle are intercahangeable. The axle that durablue sells as a extended axle for 83-85 200x is an extended 82 250r axle, says it right in the listing. 82-84 250r and 83-87 200x use the same bearings and seals, but as you see, how things line up are different. Give Inland atv a call, a few years ago they found me a new durablue +4 axle, Ibet they have some stockers also.
