Hey whats up? Im thinking of buying a used BMW for the wife and figured id check and see if anyone might know some pro's and con's. Im looking into the 2000 and up models right now and seems the price range is around 12,000 give or take. Whatever i go with has to be a 4 door and in white. Ive seen several 330i's i liked. Anything to watch for on these things when looking into them or anything to be aware of? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Justin

1.) great handling cars...+
2.) powerful, good power to weight ratios...+
3.) cost alot more to get worked on than the big 3.....-

we have a 99 Z3 convertible and i drive the wheels off it and we have yet to have any problems

the 330s are really nice cars and should do decent on gas mileage

The year range your looking at (1999-06ish?) is the e46. I drive a e36 BMW(1992-1999 3- series). The e46's are good cars, handle well and decent power, plus BMW qauilty. BMW's are reliable cars, on any day you can see BMW's on the road from the 70's to now, which shows how good they where built. Don't be scared away from the "high" prices for parts (unless its an e46 M3, $600 for a waterpump:eek: ). If you go to a dealership, or any autoparts store of course your gonna get raped. You gotta go to BMW websites, like www.rmeuropean.com for discount OEM parts.

I honestly don't know what to look for in a used e46. I know in the e36's the most commen problem is the headlinder drooping down and the doorpanels coming loose. Which is because unlike America, there's a big green movement in Germany/Europe and BMW used "Green" glue, which ended up sucking. As far as I know the e46 is pretty damn solid. The e46 is one of the best looking 3 series IMO...

325/330's are the best series you can get 4 door wise for sure. they have power and handle like a dream with the advantage of 4 door, saty with the "i" series,my buddy up the street and i work on them alot and if maintence is done those cars will last forever. way past 100k. i promise. now xi's are "bmw's all wheel drive" are quite amazing car to dirve even with a couple people in the car, and say for the wife..well this would be a safe, quick and will allow her to be well over capable to drive it. in other words it wouldn't be to much of a car for her to drive. my dad is looking at some 9-3, 9-5 saab's, and a couple 325xi's. but im not bashing anyone in here i love bmw's!! the pics above have money in the dont let them fool you. =) change fluids regularly and wax it and it will hold its value better than you think. but do your research and dont beat yourself up over getting a car here for 500-1000 less than you could at some other place =). good luck

haha 100,000 is nothing
Their motors are solid and 100,000 is nothing for these cars they run 200+ easy without and real problems

Lol my bimmer has 150k miles. My parents ford just broke 120k. Guess which one doesn't run? Yes, the ford. Also there is a guy with a 325 on bimmerforums with 600K miles!
Of course the parts will cost more than your avarage gm or ford. But unlike gm or ford they don't break down everyday.

dad got a 08 335i. same motor as the 328 just twin turbo... ****s fast as hell. had up to 140 in no time. thing handles amazing. comes around the scariest turns doing 80 and it bites and takes it with ease.

yea its pretty new only a few thousand miles even if that. but man that thing rides amazing. full sport package gps all that good stuff. hard top convertable roof that comes down by itself by a button. goesback up by itself.

yeaa only downside is the 60k is cost to get it :eek2:

nope. 335i destroys the m3 off the line and stays with it perfectly. also looks alot nicer to me.

I drive an E46 M3 and love it!. Also, I destroy 335is in the corners and off the line.

I will own BMWs all my life. They are amazing

try racing the non covertable version. the automatic folddown roof adds like 300-400 pounds to the coupe. the standard top still has all that power but now its much lighter.

oh and it makes more torque then the m3 too. m3 is soemthing like 333 hp and 280 torque. and the 335i is 310ish(340 at the crank) and i think something like 300 torque.

if you can afford to buy a bmw , in my opinion you should in turn be able to afford to fix a bmw
