I put 3 1/2 - 4 hours on it ,changed the oil/oil filter and started riding it hard after about 7-8 hours.

After 10 hours you need to do a cam adjustment, and then every 100 hours after that. That is what it states in the service manual.

how important is this cam adjustment and what do they do? id imagine ths would be time consuming? which is costly for the dealer to do

it's gonna cost me 160 to replace all the fluids, change oil & filter, adjust cam and adjust valves and a few more small things. it's 160 for labor & fluids. cam adjustment can't be too much.

why wouldn't you just change the fluids yourself?

Yeah no kidding, it's just as easy as washing it.
