whats the gas mileage on the 5.7 in the dodge 2500 or 1500 and how about the 6.0 in the chevy 2500? also does anyone on this site have the dodge cummins with the 5.9 the newer ones?

I have a 2005 Dodge 1500 Daytona 4X4 5.7 Hemi and I'm getting 17mpg on the highway, and ****ty in the city (most likely around 13/14). I've heard of guys getting up to 21mpg with it chipped on the highway though.

My buddy has a Dodge 2500 Heavy Duty with the 5.7 and he is getting 12mpg. When I bought my 03 GMC 2500HD 6.0 I was getting 10.3mpg but then I started running full synthetic, put on an exhaust and an OEM K&N replacement filter and now Im getting 11.9mpg. I've heard the 5.9 cummins isnt the greatest, but thats just what I heard talked about.

well i know that a diesel should get better milage than a gas truck its just the differnece in cost of fuel, but i dont see why they put the 5.7 hemi in the 2500 frame just makes it get worse gas milage

The 5.9 cummins will get the best mileage out of those choices all day long, and it should be bette enough to at least break even with the cost difference of fuel, if not still be better, plus even if its the same or a little more costly, just think of the extra power and motor longevity you'll get vs. the other two slugs. I can not get over how ridiculously underpowered hemis are.

There are alot of variables in this discussion, to answer your question there is a difference in the weight of a 1500 and a 2500 and I would say the main reason is the gearing..I would guess that the 2500 is geared alot lower for towing and what not...dont bash me bc I dont know the exact specs... I had a 2005 regular cab z71 chevy with the 5.3 and a 4.10 rear end and it was really quick off the line but it got really crappy milage bc running 60mph the rpms were up around 2400rpm where I traded for a 2006 extended cab with the same motor and a 3.73 rear end and there was a good 3 mpg difference

Cummins easily get the best mileage out of the three major diesels. Just part of the territory.

There is a guy on competition diesel who is modding his truck solely for mileage. He is close to 30mpg with his dodge 2500 truck. He has done extensive mods though and even built a big air damn for it. He has done this without the use of drugs yet, so it should be better once propane or a water/meth setup is hooked up.

My dad has the new 6.7L cummins turbo diesel and the 5 speed in his Ram 3500.

Its a standard cab truck, with a steel flatbed and a pump hoist (for pulling water pumps out of wells.. weighs ALOT) and he's averaging about 13mpg.

My old ford gets about 6 and its a standard cab, 2wd, with a C4...

I work for gas money!

I know a few people with the Dodge 5.7L and 5.9L ext. cab short box 4WD models and get 8-15 MPG (City/Highway).

My uncle has a '00 Chevy ext. cab short box 2500HD 6.0L with 4WD and gets 12/16 mpg (City/Highway) and 10 or under when carrying extremely large loads (he uses his truck to the max and does truck pulls in the stock and modified class with a completely stock truck).

Guy I work with just bought an '03 Chevy crew cab short box 2500HD 6.0L with 4WD and gets 10-12mpg City on a good day and I think the highest highway he's gotten is 14 mpg. I have no idea how he drives the truck but I know it does have the 4.10 gears.

None of the new diesels get great mileage because of the EPA nonsense on them such as the DPF's and EGR coolers and all that garbage.

If you want a cummins, get a 5.9, they're pretty good on fuel.

I have an 05 Ram 2500 QC 4X4 w/ the 5.9 Cummins. Banks Highram intake, Volant CAI, and a Quadzilla chip.I get between 20-23 depending how I drive. With the 33' 5th wheel on I get 15-18 again depending on how I drive. You can get better milage out of a CTD but, I am on it alot. Like the sound of a turbo spinning up.
