did you buy it like that? im about 2 get myself into somthing simular,i bought a 450r with the crankbearing out and it stood like that for 2 years we ended up spending $2000plus in parts with just exhaust piston and cam aftermarket the rest all motor parts and just got it bak mayb about 2hours on it and the trannys busted so jup....looks like alota work,looks fun though good luck

you have a lot of work set out for you! It almost looks like it was a theft recovery. I hope you got that for a very good price! Like around 1500 bucks lol. Does it even have a title? You might wanna have the vin numbers ran. The whole thing just look suspicous. Are those homemade steel nerf bars? Looks like a good project though, good luck!

Those are Proarmor nerfs, but the heel guards broke off. They are known for that.

you cant tell if the cam is stock or if it is aftermarket by looking at it, unless its black, then its hotcam, the cam gear tho does look stock.

A lot of work, but good project. I would replace every bushing, bearing and seal on that thing though. With some fresh PC it will look new.

yea im changing all the bearing and seals and bushings.and im taking it to a local shop friday to get the guesets welded in.and then its off to PC.

but the in side off the motor is it to bad besides the fact that the crank is hitting the case on the left side.but thats not to bad its just the bearing for the crank that is in the case.the piston and rings are not bad.the vavles are still good.and the cam i think is still good.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like a stock cam. About 90% sure of that. Definitely stock cam gear. No need for an aftermarket unless you want an adjustable one, and that is not an adjustable one.

Here's a tip for you. Since you have the thing split, have your valve seats cut and new valves, and definately new piston rings. Anytime you split a 450, it needs rings.

Take everybody's advice and get it powder coated. If you keep rattle canning it, it's gonna look like it did to begin with after a week.

Well said. I'm sure you really want to ride it and all, but haste makes waste. Spray paint and fourwheeler frames don't get along. I'd be willing to bet Pappy could turn that thing around for you, or maybe somebody local.

Then you should wait til you have the money, and save all the time sanding it. A sandblast job and powdercoat will get your project going in the right direction.

a frame that beat is a must have for sandblasting for inspection of cracks... u might not see it under three or four spray bomb layers.... until it breaks in half on the second time you ride it in the spring . i have a set of red fronts race cut for dirt cheap if your interested.... familiarize yourself with ace hardware's metric bolt aisle in bridgeport.. it will save you money.

Is it just me or does the seat and plastics in that third pic look to be off center to the right quite a bit compared to the swingarm? Is the subframe bent? Plastics maybe just broke and slid over? I'd look into that. Hope you didnt pay much for it!!!!!!!!!

well i say go for it sp it. i did a old set of a arms, i sanded them primered painted and clear coated all layers did about 3 times. it never and i mean never chipped it held up amazingly great. use engine paint..

In the other pic the rear plastic is lifted off the frame on the left side and still on the right side indicating the plastics and seat are twisted to the right or they are unbolted and just laying on the quad. If they are bolted on then he has some serious subframe damage.

the frame in in perfect shape no breaks or bend.from what i can tell the bike was never rod hard just mudded.but i think its turning out great.ill do some more work on it today and get some pics.

the a arms and stem are painted the same color red and im doing the motor mounts the some red.ill look today to see what the name of the color is.

Honestly, you're a moron if you don't take Pappy up on such a generous offer. No one would think you were taking advantage of him, Pappy didn't have to offer his help but he did. So instead of being stubborn, and taking the route that will cause an undesired finish, as well as making you have to tear it back down in the near future to PC it, do it right, do it once and save later headaches.

ok so guess what???:confused: :confused: i just got back from my grandpa's we were workin on getting the motor back together and we never thought to check the piston when i ordered rings.so the piston turns out not to be stock and its a wisceo 480cc piston.sounds good but the problim is my stock rings i bought wont work and the gaskets either.the only thing i can say is a hope my honda dealer had them in stock or im gonna be put back another week on the engine.but oh well.does anybody know how good a 480r runs?

i decided not to go with pc. i painted mine with tractor enamel. no it wasnt rattle can, i actually got it blasted and then put 2 coats of primer, and 3 coats of paint. my dad has a few spray guns so i used one, before painting i used metel prep and wiped down he whole frame and then when i painted it i thinned out the paint with some laquer thinner and added some jap dry which helps harden it. i have a full race season on it and no problems, actually held up better than some guys pc. with tractor enamel it doesnt chip, its actually dents the paint almost like a rubber coating. and no to mention it only cost me 7 dollars for paint

yes i know its a 400 not a 450 but you get the idea of how paint can look just as good and hold up just as good at a fravction of the cost

i agree if u use the right kind and do it right paint will hold up just fine and im geting my frame painted too,though its gona be custom painted,i wouldnt do rattle can though but i dnt see why so many people think its junk,but to each his own is wat it comes down to i think,and cmaxx sounds good and im glad everythng worked out for you,you shld add a 3mm+ strker to that(501cc) that thing would ROCK

i was at me niebors last night getting ready to come home.i started teh bike and let it idle to worm up.it set there for about 2 minutes and then just shut off.i tried to start it up and it is locked up tight,i think it probly dropped a vavle or jumped time.ill let you know what happen to it when i get it apart.

ok so look in the honda atvs for sale forum and youll see mine.im tired of messing with it.i found the porblem timing cahin jumped a few teeth.but didnt bend the vavles or anything.i want to trade for a yfz or something.

Why do you want to get rid of it and get a YFZ? If you get one in the same condition as this honda was in, its gonna do the same thing AND you are going to start all over. Give it some TLC and it'll treat you right.
