I know there has been some debate whether to use the spring from a 400ex or the stock Raptor spring when converting over to the '01 Raptor rear shock on your 300ex. I've had the 400ex spring on my Raptor shock and decided to try the stock Raptor spring.

But first I decided to measure them. To my amazement the two springs have identical spring rates. Both are single rate, have same number of turns, same wire diameter, same outside diameter. Only difference is the Raptor spring is about 30mm longer.

Bottom line: These two springs will perform identically if set for the same ride height.

I'm going to use the Raptor spring because I had the preload cranked all the way down with the 400ex spring and still the rear of the 300ex set a little low. The longer Raptor spring will allow me to be in the mid-range of the adjustment and get the ride height I want.

Another myth dispelled,
