I have a 05' 450R that I am trying to fix up. Looking to get an aftermarket air filter but can't decide between a papyrus or foam. I want to get better performance than stock filter but don't know what to go with. Any suggestions???

Thanks for your opinion. I was going with a K&N from the start but started hearing things about papyrus filters not being as good for the bike since they don't filter the air as good.

I'm not a MX racer, just love some rough trail riding and run into a lot of water and mud.

I figured a K&N with an Outwears PreFilter should be fine.

If your doing mostly trail riding with mud and water I'd look into a uni filter or you can't beat the sparks foam filter kit. K&N's are good for sand and thats about it.

Ran both K&N filters and foam...prefer foam!

No-Toil and Uni make great foam filters...

But a K&N filter and outerwear would work just fine...

I just talked to one of my old buddies and he recommended No-Toil as well. Oh well, guess I go with that the next time around.

just got the sparks filter and supercharger ring from a guy on another forum for $35 shipped, including an extra filter!!! so far i have loved it, its much larger than stock and it seems to filter just as well with added performance. i had a k&n in my '05 and even with an outerwear i still found dirt in my intake sometimes:mad: . so from that point on i have ran foam and will continue to run foam b/c of that reason and i really don't see any performance losses b/t the two.

I use a Sparks Fliter/Ring with PJ1 oil.
And an outwear airbox cover.

K&N filters sand a lot better than foam filters. I use a UNI myself, and love it, but for someone who rides dunes K&N would definantly be the way to go. Dirt and mud however, I agree that K&N is not good.

x2.

sparks with pj1 oil is the best.

the blue ray oil is 5x as hard to clean as pj1. not to mention pj1 is just as tacky if not more tacky.
