I recently took a bone stock 2004 400ex and added a 11:1 piston(stock bore), stage 1 hotcam, and hmf slip on with k&n and lid off. Elevation 1000 to 2000 ft, temperature 30 to 100 degrees. Need carb starting point. Jets, needle position, and idle screw. I also need to know if I have a stock needle. It has 6 notches and clip was in the 2nd notch. From what i've read a stock needle has 5 notches and the clip should be in the 3rd or middle notch.
From what i've read here I should start with a 165 main(keihin), 42 pilot, 4th notch down on needle, idle screw 1.5 to 2.5 turns out. I'd like to here if anyone else has these mods and if this is a good starting point. Also if anyone has any hp or dyno info with this setup. Thanks, this is an awesome site for a newbie like myself.

piston and cams will not effect your jetting....so just because you put an 11.1:1 comp piston in, doen't mean you will change your jetting. 165 sound big for just a K&N with lid off. Are you piped?

from what mods you listed, a 165 main sounds about right, 42 pilot, stock needle in the middle position, and 2 tunrs out on the air/fuel screw. and bumping up your compression and a cam WILL affect your jetting.
