Anyone thought about trying to swap those parts over to the R?

Lowest unsprung mass components on the lightest high performance quad.

I keep looking up prices, but apparently Can-Am isn't letting anyone have those parts.

yeah i agree. I think it would be a nice upgrade, lighter, better geometry, and the largest brake rotors of any sport quad ive seen. Between the spindles, forged a arms{would need frame mods} an aluminum swingarm off a 450r and the hollow axle with the extended hubs you might drop 8-10lbs of unsprung, thats huge. i have not seen any thing listed online either have not tried a dealer.

My friend has a Can Am with a Walsh frontend in it. I told him I wanted his stock stuff to measure and scope out to see if it would work in an R. It'd definately be different.

DO IT!!

I've been popping on eBay everyone once in a while, but people just don't seem to be wrecking or parting them out.

I had a stock Can Am frontend laying around and measured it, but it was a no go. One was close, but one was way off, not sure if it was the upper or lower. It was nothing that I would mess with. I sold the Can Am front end.

I was actually thinking of modifying a frame (probably a narrow front Laegers, or something) to take DS450 parts. I actually got most of a DS front end for a steal a while back, but have let this project sit while I work on another.

Yeah, that one, along with maintenance of the 250R and the YZ250, and then that Craigslist Special that's piled up in the corner.

I was leaning towards putting it together, so I don't get stuck with a bunch of random 250R parts kicking around my house.

What do you need a motor for, anyway? You got that Polanda in the works, right?

Hey Rusty!

They're on e-bay ( I see you got some)......but here's a posting

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/09-Can-Am-DS450-DS-450-left-lower-bottom-a-arm-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5885266bbcQQitemZ38 0191009724QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

How close are they to the 250R mounts ?

They gotta be like a +3 or even +4 ???? they look so long!

Could you get some measurements for us ?

Thanks!

I actually cleaned out a guy for uppers, lowers, and spindles for $0.99 each. Needless to say, he wouldn't combine shipping costs, though he combined them in the box. Lol! Can't blame him.

The lowers are close, but the tops aren't. I'm half heartedly trying to find a bent DS450 frame so I can measure things, but yeah, they're pretty narrow up front, which is why I was thinking I'd cut up a Laegers frame if I did this (though I know a few people would find fault with that! Lol!)

Here are some pics with them next to my Craigslist Special. What's neat is that the arms are the same on both sides, rather than swept forward or back like the +2 Burgards in the pics. Also, they're about one and three quarter inches longer than the Burgards, and I think the stock width of a DS450 is 46inches or so.

Lower

Upper

Lower to frame. You can kind of see in the picture after this one that although the lower slides between the mounts, the arms pivots are biased towards each other, leaving a gap on the front and back of the arm. Regardless, the shock mounts wouldn't line up anyway.

The uppers don't come close

Darn!

I was hopin' they'd line up better......:(

Thanks for including the pics.

It's too bad BRP didn't make them the same spacing as the 250r

That would have made an AWESOME sticky and cheap upgrade.

No doubt! But maybe if I can get this built like I wanted, someone will make an aftermarket 250R frame to take DS450 parts.
