hi I am getting ski plates made up for my 400ex. My friends dad is a really good welder and he is making them here is a little diagram of what they will look like .

What are you going to do to keep them from turning? Strapping the front brake lever or something?

i wouldnt reccomend locking the front brakes down permenatly. i would reengineer those metal plates a bit.

X2
I would ditch the hub altogether. Find a set of spindles and go from there, maybe the photo below will help

cool idea, but how do you plan to stop? The rear wheels dont exactly have the most stopping power even on a hard surface let alone snow.
I wouldnt overlook this

I put skis on my 400ex. they go in place of the hubs. They take about 15 min to convert with no modifications to the quad

just wondering how much better did it ride with the skis over tires was it worth it?

The ride isnt bad. It dont steer on ice though. I think it is cool, I like them. It jumps and rides just like you had tires and in dirt

Thank you for posting, the 'ski plates' just sound outright dangerous to me.
Either make hubs and bolt up to the caliper mounts or new spindles altogether. No sense in hurting yourself over cheap metal plates your friend made.

dont forget that snow provides alot of resistance for slowing down like sand would.

umm if the wheels come off the ground the skis are goin to stick in thr ground an your going to get f*cked up you need to do somthing to keep them from turning. your off to a good start tho. look at the other peoples pic they all have somthing so that they dont turn.

do you have any more pictures and/or measurements from when you built it?

I dont really have any measurements. In could get some for you. My skis have a carbide strip running down the center of the ski. They were off of a 76 or so snowmobile. I forget the brand. I know it was a 200cc
